This is indeed the choice. It'll be interesting to see which way they go. Be interesting to see when Mr. Bounds takes the reins, I assume he won't have any real decision making power until after June 30, which basically means we are out of the running for any of the best coaches this year.

Bounds started last April. The next chancellor won't start until June 2016, but at most schools it is the President who has the authority to fire the athletic director. I'm sure Bounds could pull the plug on Eichorst if he wanted to. But I doubt he will, this year anyway.
I heard a lot of Big Boosters are not found of quite Shawn Eichorst he does not mix well with them in social events.

Well I've heard just the opposite There is ONE guy that is a VERY big booster that is still a Bo apologist and I'm sure he isn't real fond of SE. The rest of em thought Bo was a lunatic.
Pretty simple really. Eichorst should be fired tonight, should have been fired weeks ago actually. Riley gets to stay on, no extensions, with an expectation of vast improvements.
The problem I had with Pelini getting fired is the conditions and expectations should have been laid out before the year started, everyone that need to know should have know what they were. This isn't unreasonable in any employer, employee relationship.

Not saying most of them wanted Bo in fact most wanted a change like the majority of the fan base.

We ARE starting from scratch. We could very well be 6-3 instead of 3-6. That being said, I expected a project in removing the cancer that Pelini left. Also, most on the team need to relearn the fundamentals. If anyone remembers how this bunch of misfits played in the last few years you have to admit our coaches sucked. Hard. Pelini didn't recruit and said to anyone who would listen that he hated doing it. Anyways, maybe we have to get rid of everyone before we can move forward. It's going to suck with all the losses. However, my apathy towards Husker football was strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane after the Dec 2012 humiliation in the B1G CG. The other crap only cemented my belief that Bo needed to go. Critics think that an overhaul of our program should not hurt. I think they are in denial about the state of our program under Pelini. Rebuilding this mess will take some time. I'll be patient and root on my favorite team regardless of the haters.
I was really surprised to hear Frazier speak on the radio about the state of things. He was pretty blunt about how much football our guys didn't really know, or player motivation to get better or whatever the particular ailment he was speaking about.
I honestly think our boys know how to motivate themselves. They been indoctrinated to turn adversity into an "us vs. them" mentality. I know when it happens upon me I work harder to win whatever challenge I have in front of me. A will to get better. Day by day.
Our president has the authority to fire the AD. He wouldn't do it, IMO, without BOR ok. If Pearlman didn't like it they can give him his early retirement papers. Read Sipples tweets after releasing his story. Not a huge Sipple fan but as a reporter you don't put this stuff out there without knowing something.
The conditions were laid out and Bo couldn't live by them. He couldn't help himself.

Anyone backing MR and SE now should be drug tested.
People have said never happen to a lot of things that actually happen - Obama being president, terrorist attack on U.S. soil......Riley being dismissed this season is a whole lot more likely than a lot of won't ever happens that have happened.
The one reason I believe it could happen is that people are waking up to the fact that they want Nebraska to have a certain/unique identity that fits with our heritage and gives us a competitive advantage. This was not factored into to Riley's hire. SE just wanted the embarrassment of a no class brand symbol on the sidelines to stop and went to the polar extreme opposite. Much the way HP went to SE to diverge from TO.
We'll see. SE is not a likeable figure. Fans do not like where the team is headed identity wise offense, defense, special teams, or mindset. Husker don't want to look like everyone else. We used to ridicule cookie cutter teams with no advantage. Now we are supposed to accept becoming one? SE screwed up here strategically. He may pay sooner than people think. #trev

Great post...100% concur. Our identity used to be to hit an opponent squarely in the mouth over and over and over again. Big, tough o-linemen that would even tell you where the play was going and beg you to try and stop it. Unfortunately, too many...many on this board included...began to think that we should be something other than what we were, and begin to clammer about bringing Nebraska Football into the 2100 century. That was a totally BS move and shows what happens when a leopard tries to change his spots.
You're correct. Back in 2003 Stewart Mandel wrote an article after Solich was let go. In this article he basically said that NU would be wise to stick with the offense that makes them unique. He said that it would be unwise to move towards an offense that most all other teams run, the type of offense that would make us have to recruit against all the other big schools for NFL style QBs, WRs, etc. He realized that one of the things that made NU special for all those years was that we could recruit players that fit our system and who didn't often fit in your typical pro-style offense (i.e., run first QBs, shorter, more stout OL, etc.)
It's very obvious to me that Mandel was absolutely correct. NU has lost what once made it special. We're now trying to recruit the same skill position players that Alabama, USC, Florida, etc. are, and not so shockingly, we lose most of those battles.
I think it's time we go back to our roots. When it's time for MR to move on, I hope our AD has the wisdom to bring Frost and his TO/Oregon offense back home.

outside of the suh/prince/dennard/crick years, the number one problem has been the defense. soft and slow at way too many positions.
Bingo! The recruiting aside, our teams made opponents put in a new defense just for the one time that year that they played an option offense. Major tactical advantage for the good guys.
This is why I like Ken Niuatalolo from Navy. Runs the option, from the Paul Johnson coaching tree. His teams finish 50 plus spots above their recruiting rankings. Finishes in the top every year for least penalties. To me he may very well be a young Bill Snyder type of coach. Getting way more from a lot less.
You mean Paul Johnson that's 3-6 with a team he's coached for years that's located in a talent rich area of the country. Oh boy. Gimme some of that.
I've never been thrilled with Paul Johnson. If he didn't run the option, I don't think anyone else would be here either.
Rather have Calhoun if you want to go to the underachieving school route again.
