Mount Airy at Reidsville
Reidsville will be fired up for this game as it's a chance to save face after getting embarrassed last week by ES. MA meanwhile is trying to save face after fighting for their lives two weeks earlier, both have reasons to play hard but the question will be down to the talent. In that way I think on the whole Reidsville is just much better they are more experienced and have a ton of athletes, MA's D will have to bunker down and play their hardest this year or else it will be a long night.
Ashe at Elkin*
Ashe is on a nice winning streak after a tough win to start the year while Elkin upset the Rams last week in a game not many expected so both are riding very high. Elkin is still figuring out the pass and NS showed their weakpoints in week 2 during the first half so the Elks better come ready as Ashe will be coming ready to throw it. The game will come down to the line play, and I think Elkin's
size will just be too much for Ashe's young line but if they can give the QB time he will give Elkin fits all night and keep them going.
Atkins at West Stokes*
Last week Atkins somehow managed to play the 'Bush very hard to a 21-6 loss.. either it was the homecoming ceremonies or the 'Bush didn't come ready or something entirely but it was WAY closer than it should have been. West meanwhile rolled like I figured they would over Central. This week it's West's turn for homecoming and Atkins will be rolling on in.. see it being a tough go for them. Question here is if West can get the shutout, Atkins has been shutout in all but 2 games this year, if a team's very physical they have a great shot of getting a shutout. I think West can do it, especially on homecoming.
South Stokes at South Davidson
The Sauras are a week rested and recovered after a injury spree and a hard fought loss to Elkin last week. Now they face a decent trek to Denton to play longtime foe South Davidson who like always trying to rebound with a new coach. The Wildcats aren't 100% a pushover like I figured they would be, they have an offense that can score in the triple option.. they barely lost to Carver in a game they should have won, and played South Stanly in a thriller last week, it won't be no easy win for the Sauras they better come ready to play. When push comes to shove SS just has the better overall talent and coach I think they will pull the rabbit out of the hat.
Starmount at Alleghany*
Starmount beat one rival one week then disappointed the next vs the other one, very unexpected performance in that way. Alleghany meanwhile had a rough go vs Ashe and the pass so both teams will be needing a boost here. Starmount I think just has the edge due to their experience and talent, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's close due to being at home for the Trojans.
Forbush at Surry Central*
The Bush underperformed last week down in Winston quite badly and Central had a rough go but played West hard. These two combine for some very interesting games due to both being a lot alike. I wouldn't be surprised if Central pulls off the upset here honestly, Bush struggles vs teams as physical as them or teams with speed and they are still quite young, Central has more seniors. I think when it comes down to 0 Forbush just has the better players but expect anything here.
West Wilkes at East Wilkes*
West had a nightmare of a conference opener last week while East went down after fighting very hard vs NW last week. This game always brings the best out of both teams but ultimatly I think East is just way more talented than West is on varsity this year. In a couple of years it may be a barnburner due to West's rising talent but if East can keep track of the ball and stay healthy I see
them winning by a nice margin here.
Wilkes Central at North Wilkes*
Central had a great opener last week as their defense had their best showing and they controlled the game from start to end, North meanwhile had to fight for their win as East refused to quit and had to keep scoring. It's a battle of the MVAC's best offense vs a rising defense with solid athletes. NW always plays well in Hays and I see them giving Central a fight but I don't think NW's defense
can handle Central's speed, their defense always struggles with speed and RPO's.
Carver at Walkertown*
Last Week the Wolfpack were knocked into reality by North Surry in a hard fought thriller, but to his credit McKoy's done a great job with them and they will be a force in the 2020's. Carver meanwhile has turned into a mess again after a decent start, they have already switched their offense and had an awful yet suprsingly close showing vs North Forsyth last week. They were dominated for 3 quarters before coming back. This week I don't see that happen, WT's way too well coached and it will be a battle to beat them. Carver just don't have the numbers or talent to do it.
WS Prep at Bartlett Yancy
All right battle of the titans here! Both teams are undefeated and are in unknown spots, Prep's tied for their best record ever at 5 wins and a win here will give them their most wins. BY meanwhile has tied their best record in the past 25 years and 2 more wins will tie their best year all toghether. Someone has to lose here, Prep will have the athlete edge but BY will have more kids and
are more established. Like many games the difference will come down to line play, Prep's line needs to be able to handle the pressure or else they will fall. BY meanwhile has their own faults and it's hard for me to pick. This one's turned into a solid rivalry the past few years and it should be another close one.
