Slightly OT - new UofA WBB coach

The University of Arizona named former player Adia Barnes the new Head Coach. Barnes was most recently an assistant at Washington for 5 years, and had a playing career in the "W" and overseas, where she met her husband.

She got the job over Julie Hairgrove, another alum who has been an Assistant with the Phoenix Mercury for 10 years and is Lute Olsen's granddaughter. Also over Todd Holthaus, a successful coach at the local community college who was an assistant at Arizona about 10 years ago.

I'm very pleased. Liked Niya Butts, who was head coach since before we arrived our there, but had finally concluded she just couldn't do it.

It sounds like they decided on her a while back and were just waiting for her to finish the NCAAs.

One winning season and a 102-147 (34-110 PAC) doesn't help a HC keep their job no matter how nice a person that coach is.
UofA's WBB fans look North with envy like ASU's MBB fans look South with a little jealousy in their hearts.
