His worst call of the night was going for it on 4th down in his own territory, relatively late in the game.
I think one thing occasioned the other. Even though they retook the lead after being down, he knew they didn't have a handle on stopping Ole Miss. Georgia's offense wasn't very good in the second half. Their receivers aren't that good at getting separation. That freshman was out of his depth. Plus, they were seriously hampered when that lead running back got hurt late.

2nd year in a row Kirby calls a complete bonehead play as you mentioned, and last year just before half against ND, again he goes bonehead.

Kirby's calls were more affected by his sh@t OC...Mr. Bobo. I know we can show these numbers and XYZ of what he's done....but I think he consistently does the least with the best players the last decade for wherever he's been. So predictable. If Bobo doesn't have the best players by far....he is always running an 8-4 W/L type offense...no matter how good defense and ST is on the same team.

If memory serves, he did the same thing in the first SEC championship game he ever coached. Fake punt blew up and they wound up losing.

I was reading some quotes from Kirby. He said that they weren't supposed to snap the ball on 4th down in their own territory. They were trying to draw them off-sides. He said the snap caught Stockton off-guard?

How does this happen? Particularly after a timeout? Is Kirby just trying to save face by suggesting it wasn't his fault?

I would haver a lot easier time believing Kirby if A) Stockton is lined up under center in a bunch formation and B) Stockton actually looked surprised at the snap

Watched his post game. Don’t recall him saying it caught Stockton offsides but that they were trying to draw offsides and it wasn’t supposed to be snapped. There was a misunderstanding/miscommunication that he said was on the coaches for the snap occurring.

Sorry, the article said it was snapped to a surprised Stockton. Not a direct quote from Kirby. C&P below

Instead, Georgia snapped the ball to a surprised Gunner Stockton, and Ole Miss linebacker Suntarine Perkins came unblocked off the edge for the sack.

After some bone-headed decisions he made in his first years as HC in the SEC championships against Saban I callled him Kirby Not So Smart.
I guess I’ll go back to that until he wins another NC.
