Everybody is 1-1. Here are my views:
Murphy still appears to be the top team. They hit a buzzsaw Friday . Should help them come playoff time.
Robbinsville appears to still be solid, but Friday's results does raise some questions.
Cherokee, Hayesville,Swain all appear to be improved. They seem to be the middle tier and are probably capable of challenging Robbinsville .
Andrew, Rosman. Both need to get better. Andrews seems to have the edge between the 2. They may struggle to qualify for the playoffs.

Murphy should be fine in conference play but they've got to figure out some things at RB if they want to reach their goals come postseason time.

#5 beefed up from 190 to 220 in the off-season and there's no question he's stronger but he's definitely lost a lot of quickness. I don't see the five yard burst necessary to excel against speedy/top tier teams from tail now, especially with a natural tendency to try to bounce things outside, that worked some as a 175 lb freshman and 190 lb sophomore but at 220 now its a different ballgame. None of this is in any way meant as a shot or a knock on #5, he's a good football player. I just genuinely believe in the best interest of the team the current skillset is better suited for fullback or even wingback where he looked dangerous against Franklin from that spot, #5's still got speed once he gets into the second level of the defense and open field.

As I see it #8 is the more natural RB at this point in terms of skillset and should be at that position with this personnel. #8 has really excelled so far at wing and there's no reason to believe he wouldn't do the same at RB based on what we've seen thus far in terms of his vision, hitting the crease and burst. So I would strongly consider shifting #8 to RB and shifting #5 to fullback or wing to give this football team the best chance in the long run against the types of teams they're going to see deep in the playoffs.

Swain came back 2 TDs down and was a 2 pt conversion away from beating Pisgah at home.

Unfortunately, electing to pass for said 2 pt conversion instead of sticking with what got them back in the game was the undoing for them. Coaching seems to continue to be the oh so familiar thorn in their side even when things are going good.

That said it does appear that Swain is much improved from last year, if they can clean up the bad snaps and various broken plays they might be a tough out for a lot of teams. This week against Franklin will definitely give us a bit more insight into this years Maroon Devils.

I was surprised when Swain opted to pass bc you’re right the run is what got them all the way down the field and that pass obviously didn’t surprise anyone.

Pisgah is struggling to make tackles and Swain, like MH, took good advantage of that.

I think Swain can make a game out of everyone in the SMC with maybe the exception of Murphy.

Robbinsville came out flat. Anyone who watched the third quarter of that game knows this. Franklin has a solid, well coached team and had Murphy on the ropes in week 1. So I’m not sure what questions you are asking or if you’re referring to Franklin being weak, because that’s definitely not the case imo. Two plays was the difference in the game Friday and the Knights were basically a no-show for a half.

Well, one of the obvious questions is why did they come out flat? Inn addition what was the problems that resulted in a relatively low scoring game.

Not sure why they come out flat to be honest. When two running teams meet up, the clock moves quite a bit faster. The Knights secondary was a little off Friday compared to the Tuscola game but youth is the biggest factor there. After making it 21-7 and holding the Panthers 3 and out, they drove down to the one and fumbled into the end zone for a touchback and that seemed to take the life out of them. Had it not been for a td on 4th and long and that fumble, the score may have been different, but!
