I was impressed by both of these young sophomores going against Tuscola. Both played both ways and never came off the field.
This was Damian’s first varsity game and first career start at qb ever. I could see him improve his reads throughout the game. Even threw a td late in the fourth quarter. His reads will get better as he gets more experience.
To me Bryce Sain showed leadership and toughness in this game. It was obvious that Tuscola defense focused on him throughout the game but they could not prevent him from getting physical yards between the tackles. His helmet broke several times throughout the game if that says anything. He also had two 25-30 yard kick returns and a timely 50 yard return. So he probably had 200+ all purpose yards in this game. Maybe 8 tackles on defense.
Swain will get better as the season progresses.
