SMC rolls with 5 wins. The 2 teams that lost played other SMC teams (which is ridiculous) We might have been 7 & 0 if not for that.

Has this been beat to death or what? This is 1A ball! Small schools have to fill in their schedule by playing larger schools, with the results being that most smaller schools end the season with a losing record despite being VERY competitive among their peers. On the opposite end of the spectrum, many really big schools have no choice but to fill their schedule with games vs smaller opponents (smaller size schools) and many end up with a good looking winning record even though they may NOT be very competitive among their peers.
Your right the SMC is terrible they haven't had a state championship in almost a year. Swain is 1aa and didn't win the conference last year but made it to regional finals without one of their best backs. Keep talking and this conference will keep providing results even playing teams with losing records.
For goodness sake, don't be a hater ! As for my team, Andrews,a school with only 280 students, we played 2 2a schools and won, we also played a 3a school thT had only 1 lost all season, we played Mitchell then we played our SMC big boys which are Robbinsville, Swain, Murphy and Rosman also a ver good Cherokee team. Now you tell me, is that not one hell of a schedule! Take the time and look where these teams are now and what they have accomplished for years.

Thank you, not bragging or beating my chest about our conference but gzzz. I get tired of hearing this. They are years when you could take our big 3 out of the picture and I still think the next 3 teams could compete in the other conferences in the state and succeed
SMC across the board is a GREAT small high school football conference. I grew up in the steel area of western PA where high school football is king and year in and out the SMC compares to the best small high school football in the country.
That's rich coming from a fan of a school that has a great regular season record every year only to fall short in the playoffs, because they pad their record by playing a bunch of nobodies, minus one or two teams.

That is the pot calling the kettle black. What you won't see on our schedule is a couple of home school teams. What you have seen on our schedule is W Stokes, 2a,champions a couple of years ago, Starmount a previous championship team and the team that drug Swain out to the woodshed last year, and the last 4 years up until this year Thomasville a team that won several state champiobships but what you wont see is a home school team. The original response was to the SMC rolling on fri night and my question was how many of those wins came over teams with a winning record.
Well let go with that argument then. Let's just take Andrews since this is a wildcat post. This season they played Murphy, swain and Robbinsville. All who have won state titles in the last few years. Home school teams you say. Why do you think smc schools have to play those type teams? Because no one wants to lose to 1A schools from the smc so it's ridiculous to find a game. Murphy and Swain year in and out struggle to find folks that will play them. Appreciate your interest in our pitiful little conference though. Maybe one day we'll make the big time.......
Sbbbfan you keep bringing up how Starmount beat Swain last year as well as makin other disparaging remarks about Swain? What is your fascination with the Maroon Machine? Why don't you mention the two beat downs the Maroon Devils have laid on Starmount 2 of the last 3 years and knocked off the higher seeded Bears last year as well. The the Maroon Devils out of your peepee contests. You haven't seen a devil fan disparage East Wilkes once or any team up that way for that matter so stand down.
Starmount was Jekyl and Hyde this year. We didn't play too great on the road this year. We were very young at spots. I've followed the Rams since 1977 and I know we have had some teams that I would put up against anyone in the state (heck 1998 state champion team was not even the best team we ever had here talent-wise).
Yes, Starmount did beat Swain pretty bad last year. It was only our 2nd win ever against that respected bunch. It felt pretty good as a Ram fan to beat the #1 team in all-time playoff wins. To be honest, I will explain below why Starmount needed to win last year.
It was 1999 and Starmount had won 27 straight games and was ranked #1 in the state...guess who ended our streak...the Maroon Machine. Don't ever take Swain lightly.

Hendersonville 1-0 - they were SMC when we played them

Wasnt trying to start an argument with the whole smc I just asked one simple question and still haven't got an answer. I know all the history of the conference we get reminded of it every year and I believe Robbinsville will win back to back titles. Lets face it the only competition is Murphy.
The question was bait to start all this mess when u could have easily gone to nchsaa.org and looked for yourself. It was the 1st round and if your team is on top of course you will play someone with a worse record. Nice try though the way you made it sound like you were just curious.

That's just it. There is no argument. You have to have an argument to make, and to put it plainly you don't. I would agree that the 1A playoffs for the most part are pitiful. Most years though, if you put the SMC teams up against the other conferences, they do well. Not every year but for the most part.
Do you REALLY want to compare yearly out of conference schedules?? You talk like Murphy makes a habit of scheduling "home school" teams lol! Go check out Murphy's past schedules and see how they have done against some powerhouse schools in NC, GA, and TN over the years. When a 1a school does as well as Murphy does against bigger schools, the bigger schools take notice and start shying away. No big school wants to take the risk of getting it's *** kicked by a 1a school so a lot of them won't play Murphy. You think maybe, just maybe, that might be why Murphy is forced to play some "home school" teams from time to time?

The whole purpose of this thread was mountain pride ! Proud of our conference and proud of our area. We beat the snot out of each other and get testy with each other through regular season but come playoff time we support each other. Pride, evidently something the other conferences does not have. My little team has not accomplished anything since the 60's where we won around 3 titles, but you can bet your tail when our other teams make it to the Title game we are behind them. Pride
