We’re just lucky to be ranked.
There are 6 teams ranked ahead of PSU with 2 or 3 losses...no respect.
Our 2 losses were against teams in the playoff. Ridiculous.

Unfortunately, the factors used to evaluate most teams come down to opinion, politics and the eye test. PSU is in the Rose Bowl and that’s what matters. It’s a great accomplishment for them. They’ll have a chance to beat them on the field.
If Penn State had managed to beat either UM or OSU, they would be the first 1 loss team overlooked for a 2 loss team.
Clemson being ranked where they are is also a joke. Get blown out by Notre Dame and lose to South Carolina, both relatively late in the season. So, they beat a fading North Carolina team and end up at #7. Unreal.
Utah is a very physical team. I hope Olu can play. We will need him @ LT and I would try Shelton to the right even if Wallace is healthy.

Hopefully opt outs on both sides don't effect the game too much. I love a 5 o'clock game especially with work the next day. The smoker will be working hard all day!
Utah looks to me like a team that will rip the Penn State defense to shreds in the 4th quarter, throwing can't-miss darts to open receivers, with the QB putting together drives of 5-for-5 passing, and shredding the defense like Luwerke (twice!), Darnold, Barrett, and Stroud, all of whom looked like Heisman winners against the Penn State defense. Cam Rising, you're next!
Sean, please make the last game you play in a PSU uniform one of the very best you’ve ever played. I think we will need it.

Fitting ending to a great year. This is the best year of PSU football since the Paterno era. Ending with the Rose Bowl against a worthy opponent is the icing on the cake.

Nice and easy 14 point victory to end the season ... just have to suffer through the pageantry of the Rose Bowl, but otherwise a good ending to a very good season. Would have preferred to whoop Clemson, but they're in the "This Is Seriously The ORANGE Bowl" with fellow orange squad, Tennessee. Don't give a rip what we're ranked.

Wow, some of you are so emotionally weak that you continue to let some arbitrary ranking bother you. Guess what, we're in the Rose Bowl. Rankings don't mean crap anymore!! But at least there's entertainment value in seeing who the whiners are.
As for the game, I'd give one simple piece of advice -- COVER THE TIGHT ENDS!!! Given PSU's tendency to allow chunks in the middle of the field and for the LB's and safeties to be lacking in coverage, it'll be a big key to look for. Vegas line seems right and this will be a good measuring stick game to cap off the season.

I’d say that 2016 was a better year, but, yeah, I’ve really taken a shine to this year’s team.
I think PSU v Utah just may steal the show. This should be an awesome game
Each team that jumped PSU has a win or wins against ranked teams.
If Auburn, Minnesota and Purdue hadn't crapped the bed as many times as they did this year PSU would definitely be ahead of USC, whose two signature wins are against teams with records similar to Minny and Purdue's, and would most likely still be in the top 8.
Not that it matters now. Beat Utah and PSU finishes in the top ten and has a nationally televised win for recruiting purposes.
