I could live with the smoke & residue from Canadian forest fires, but this parasitic infection troubles me. I still have residual effects from the C-diff and salmonella I contracted two yrs ago.

"Cyclosporiasis, a nasty parasitic infection that causes bouts of “explosive” watery diarrhea, has sickened hundreds of people in Michigan and other parts of the United States.

Since June 22, at least 718 cases of cyclosporiasis have been reported across at least 8 counties in Michigan: Monroe, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Wayne, Shiawassee, Jackson, Oakland and Livingston. No specific food, grower or supplier has been identified as the source so far, per the MDHHS."

The CDC is investigating a large, multistate cyclosporiasis outbreak in the U.S., with over 6,700 cases reported across at least 34 states
The only preventive advice I've heard is to be sure to wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them. By washing, not soaking in water, but running water through them. For lettuce,, as has always been my practice, remove several outer layers and then before use, run under water. I know it's tedious but it is what the health officials are recommending. And I'm sure you already practice good hand hygiene.

Not really.

Cyclospora cannot be completely washed off. While vigorous rinsing under running water removes a large portion of the parasites, it does not eliminate the risk. The resilient parasite clings tightly to microscopic crevices and is entirely resistant to routine chemical sanitizers, vinegar, or baking soda

I don't believe I said the method was 100% effective. Just passing on advice from health officials. Yes, it can cling especially on fruits like blackberries and strawberries, as well as lettuce. However, thorough washing greatly decreases the incidence.

Gotta get my head out of my a$$, I didn't realize Canada's on fire again.

CLICK ON PIC TO ENLARGE

UP-DATE----both mountain ranges have disappeared in the smoke since taking the pics.

From our kitchen the mountain range is 3,600 feet distant

Kurt Aaron on Channel 16 said the AQI, air quality index in Williamsport was over 400. It's pretty bad in Lycoming County and central Pa.

We used to eat healthy salads for dinner twice a week but are discontinuing that until this cyclops goes away.

Very interesting video on the Cyclosporiasis parasite. Please share with your community.

The boreal forests up there are almost never ending until you hit the tundra. There are hundreds of miles of territory without paved roads once you hit the 56th parallel. Get used to this as these forests get drier and wood borers and other pests make their way to more northern climes.

I remember driving from Banff up to Jasper, seeing miles of endless trees, and telling my friend that when these forests start flaming up , there’s nothing stopping them.
And about 2 years ago, the gateway town to Jasper NP got wiped off the map

Standing approximately one mile away from Mt. Nittany and Tgar can not even see a silhouette of the mountain.

How smoky is it where you are currently?

The air Smells like firewood.
In northern Ohio the smoke is bad. Supposed to start moving out on Saturday. It smells like a newspaper fire.

I thought I heard during the 2023 Canadian fires, it came out that Canada’s national budget at some point reduced or eliminated funding for preventing and fighting forest fires, maybe under Trudeau or beforehand. I thought some local elected officials or appointed people in Canada criticized it. Anyway, it’s happening again.

Well, we now are apparently under 400, which is better than 877 during the evening commute. However this morning looks worse than yesterday morning. Hoping we get the expected T-showers and wind shift so I can run. Had to sub a weight session last night - my car (zoom upper right) had us at 552 afterward. Yes, I like my PSU blue/white Tesla.

Projected to be worse today with a Purple rating which is next to the most sever but this morning it actually seems better than yesterday.

Tesla give you an AQI? Does the car compute it, or is it from the internet? Either way, that’s pretty cool.

Attached is a letter sent by Michigan congressional representatives to the Canadian PM. In the letter arson is mentioned. I have not seen or heard arson mentioned in any of the reporting over the past years unless I missed something.
