Depends who you listen to I’ve heard posters on this board say he is by far the best passer and another who repeatedly says he can’t throw a lick.
unless smothers is significantly better which i wouldn't predict he should be thinking "I'm not going to play until im a senior" because Martinez still has 1-2 yrs left and McCaffery has 4 yrs. I dont see Smothers having a chance until after Martinez leaves then he still has to beat out a more experienced and physical McCaffery for a chance. Smothers is probably wasting his time the next 3 yrs at least

If he didn’t think he can beat out those guys then we probably don’t want him. LM is a great athlete, but I’m not sure he is a D1 QB anywhere.

If Smothers can't throw then a question that needs to be asked is why does the staff recruit quarterbacks who cant throw?

Why are you the way you are? This is trolling, pure and simple, and bad trolling at that.

Yes. If you run off two 4* QBs when you show up, recruit three more 4* and can’t find anyone to run your offense effectively, then.... ???

You don’t have to look any further than what Verduzco said on Husker Sports Nightly last week. He and Austin need to be the first to go. Below is a transcript from his interview.

What does Verduzco look for the most in a QB recruit?

He wants a guy who can run and is an athlete, but also has a stroke without any major problems.

It is kind of disappointing that in a year that really doesn’t count on eligibility, we couldn’t play well enough to get him a few snaps to play in.

Another recruit no local big boy school offered. Remember the same local beat reporters and @sean say wait until you see this kid Luke throw.

How optimistic can he feel after watching his head coach call plays all season? He could be terrified when it is finally his turn. Winking
An average passing QB would have had 300+ yards and 3 passing TD’s today. The misses to wide *** open Wandale and Martin for sure TD’s were ridiculous. Not to mention not seeing 8 ft tall Allen all alone for a TD.

Look at your QB coach. He is way out of his league, and has a strange relationship with Frost. He ruins prospects and teaches nothing. Guy's resume looks like a Class A baseball assistant manager being promoted to pith in coach. Fire him, get a portal QB and turn play calling over to Lubick. If he doesn't, he should resign not wait to be fired and jump on the gravy train. He is a very cold, emotionless man who goes through life in a bunker mentality and his hiding out in that closet is transferred to his team's timid, uncertain personality. If any CEO at a large company performed this way he would have his hat in his hand as the door hit him in the rear.

NikkiSix says he can't throw. If only we still had Vedral...
The tempo on those seven first-half three-and-outs yesterday was nothing short of amazing.

If not for the grad transfer rule, NU would have three scholarship QBs who can't throw a 10-yard pass and one on whom the jury is still out.

Umm no its not. Its probably just the facts. Frost likes running QBs. Its a fact. By virtue of being called a running QB that logically means they are not considered a passing QB. The elite QBs now are very good runners but very good passers. In todays game it appears the passing has become more important than the running. Frost might have to change his QB strategy

I listened to an NFL head coach talk one time about evaluating QBs. His main point was that you can't really fix mechanics and accuracy. Throwing accuracy can only be helped so much with footwork and mechanics. Start with a guy who is accurate and has a high football IQ or you're screwed. It appears that we're ignoring accuracy in high school completely. Mahomes has terrible mechanics but the guy is extremely accurate no matter what position he's throwing from. I wish I could remember who that coach was. He believed accuracy was just something your either had or didn't.

Wandale had a big slow LB chasing him in desperation. If he even underthrows it Wandale would still come down with the ball 90% of the time. Instead he overthrows him by 5 yards. I think NU finishes this season with 4 passing touchdowns and 7 interceptions. In a fricking passing offense. Yes the OL and receivers can improve and honestly both have over the course of the season, but the QBs are just not able to make the throws to run this offense.

THAT is why I posted yesterday that I was ready for a Maskers to play. I've seen enough of missing a wide open guy on an easy route to complete.
The only reason Masker isn't playing is that he is slower than a snail running the ball
