Snell in heisman conversation?

With Boom possibly leaving for NFL and the success Benny had running the ball this season, you think it's possible he could get in the Heisman conversation? Also with the O-line we have returning it just seems everything is lining up for him to have a great season.

I think maybe the one thing that holds him back is Heisman candidates usually come from teams with 9+ wins. I know it's really early but the thought had crossed my mind a couple times, and wanted to know if you guys think it may be possible.

I think whats holding him back is the word "kentucky" on the front of his jersey. I dont like it but its the truth. There is a built in biased toward us from our historiclly bad teams... Otherwise 8 wins would do the trick i.e. RGIII went 8-4 at Baylor and won.

For snell to have a shot, kentucky would need to win the east and play well in Atlanta. Only other way would be to win 6+ games but rush for something insane like 2000 yards. But that will not happen

If Kentucky can win the bowl game against Georgia Tech and have a sensational season next year I see no reason why not. I look for Benny to really turn it on next season because he may be the featured back depending on what Boom does. He may be anyway. I wouldn't trade him for anybody out there.

Running back needs just about everything possible to go their way to win the Heisman these days. Playing for Alabama obviously helps.

D'Onta Foreman and Dalvin Cook were both unreal this year from the tailback position ... and neither even got enough votes to get an invite to NYC.

I think the question is "Can Snell have a 22 rushing touchdown, 1700+ yard season?"

If he does that, he's the Heisman winner. I think he could. Hell, if he were to play the first two games of the season, maybe he goes into bowl season with 16 touchdowns to his name as a true freshman.
We return 9 players out of our 10 deep on the offensive line (statistically a top 5 offensive line), so we'll be spectacular on the line next season, so yeah, I could definitely see Snell winning a Heisman. He's an outstanding back, and PFF, a very well respected analytics group, said that he graded out as the best running back in the SEC, and this is in his true freshman season again.
It's very possible. Maybe even next year.
I do think that next year at the Louisville game, we're gonna see 2 of the best players on the country on the field.

Baylor was 9-3 when RGIII won the Heisman in 2011

I would think QB Johnson to be in the talk for Heisman next year if he continues his upward performance.

Anyone in the Heisman talk wearing Kentucky Blue is great!

Doubt it becasue:

(1) They usually give this to a QB
(2) They usually favor a historically elite team
(3) They almost always choose a player from a top 5 or at least top 10 team and while that's not out of the question for next year it would be a bit of a long shot.
(4) We will rotate our backs to keep them fresh, so I don't see one back accumulating Heisman type numbers.

A little early for that type of hype, however, it is not out of the realm of possibility!!!!!

IMO - It is the lack of team achievement that would be the main problem....not the name on the jersey.

I think the name "Kentucky" is a factor only because we have no tradition of assembling the number of wins necessary to be in the discussion. We will need 9+ wins--and be SEC E champs (or just barely edged out) for any player consideration for end-of-year O-awards. We don't have any track record for such a performance. BUT--If we did have a stellar year in the SEC on the back of Snell....he would be in the discussion for Heisman honors. He might even get a bump in buzz because we as a team would be in "uncharted territory."

"In the conversation" could be a possibility at some point. I looked back since 2010 and here are the "least impressive" stats for a top 10 finish by year:

2016 - Dalvin Cook / FSU / 1620 yards / 18 TD's (4 running backs in Top 10)
2015 - Dalvin Cook / FSU / 1691 yards / 19 TD's (5 running backs in Top 10)
2014 - Melvin Gordon was only RB in top 10 and he finished 2nd
2013 - Ka'Deem Carey / Arizona / 1885 yards / 19 TD's (3 running backs in Top 10)
2012 - Kenyon Barner / Oregon / 1767 yards / 21 TD's (only running back in Top 10)
2011 - LaMichael James / Oregon / 1805 yards / 18 TD's (3 running backs in Top 10)
2010 - LaMichael James / Oregon / 1731 yards / 21 TD's (only running back in Top 10)

Don't necessarily think there's a bias as much as we haven't had many to be in those types of conversations especially on teams that don't win. Couch and Woodson despite not being front runners, both were in the talks and had overachieving seasons thru 3/4 the year. Cobb maybe could've been as well but played on piss poor teams. Point being, if a UK player is good enough, has an outstanding season and is perceived as a driving force in taking a historical bad football team to becoming a winning team that is ranked and has national attention...then I think he'll def be in the conversation.

The award used to almost always go to a running, back, but in the evolution of spread offenses, and dual threat quarterbacks, the award is becoming more and more difficult for a running back to win. San Diego State has a running back who rushed for over 2000 yards and16 TDs and didn't even get a sniff. Not sure if he was even in the top 10 for Heisman voting.

It will be interesting to see the kind of year Jackson has next season, or if somebody else will step up and challenge him. It seems like lately when a player wins it and comes back, (manziel, Tebow, et, al.) they have difficulty duplicating their heisman year success. Probably because they are keyed on more by their opponents.

Beware of the Sophomore slump....

It's happened before and I think we are putting very HIGH expectations on Benny. He is only human and has already over achieved. I just want him to be solid next season and not get injured so we can enjoy him at least two more seasons.

look at how good a back Sonny Collins was and I don't think he even made the top 5

It's debatable that Snell's true freshman season was better than any single season that Sonny Collins had. Kid is a monster.

If you look up the stats compared to other great college backs (Cook, Fournette, Chubb, etc.) in their true freshman seasons, they really compare favorably.
Snell already has had a much better freshman season in comparison to Fournette and Cook, and is on a fairly equal pace to Chubb when you consider that Chubb played 13 games, and Snell has played 10.

It's kind of fun looking back through all the years and who were top 10 guys. The strangest one I have found so far:

In 1986, Jim Harbaugh finished 3rd in the voting and he had 10 TD's and 11 INT's that year.

Snell is one of the best backs, as a Freshman, I have seen. Can he win the Heisman, who knows? It takes so much luck. Jackson made the big move in the Syracuse game when he leaped over the back. He started to be noticed after that game, and just kept rolling. He is one heck of an athlete, and I'm really happy for the young man, even though I dislike the team he plays for. Next year will be a tough year for him, and forget about him winning back to back, Heismans. UK will kick their butt next year, BIG TIME!

Winning back to back Heisman is tough for anyone and why I think it has only been done once maybe twice. I know Archie Griffin did at Ohio St. not sure about anyone else off hand.

This is a big thing. It isn't all numbers. There has to be a lot of flash. For Snell, that flash is similar to Derrick Henry in the way that he can absolutely carry tacklers, move the pile, never gets tired and actually gets better as the game wears on, and can mow guys over.

Boom won't leave, and Snell isn't in the Heisman conversation. He is a very good player, but let's not lose our perspective.

He won't get enough carries. Plus, as much as I love him, he's just not going to have that wow factor necessary. He doesn't get huge yardage in a single play.

He's fantastic and im thrilled we have him. Just not the flash necessary to win. Hope I'm wrong

Boom can't stay healthy dude he won't be able to play in NFL but yeah the o-line would have to improve quite a bit and even without Alabama on the schedule the sec was a little down this year and they will be better next season with all these new coaches getting accustomed. It'll be tough but anything can happen.

The fact we can even have a discussion about it shows how good Snell is.

I don't know if he will ever win a heisman, or be considered for one, but there won't be many RBs as good as him in the country.
