My kids are gone and by buxom wife isn't going to clear the drive way of snow while I'm in the house enjoying my remote start for the Duramax.

So to keep peace I'm in the market for a snow blower.

What say you who have and use them? Which brand, options, etc.? And recommend one where my neighbors want me to clear their driveways too.

I’m out in Colorado, one home in the Denver metro area and a mountain home at 8,400’. I use a single-stage Ariens for my 100 ft driveway in Denver and a two-stage Honda with tractor treads for my 700’ driveway in the mountains. The Ariens should be fine for 95% of people, but if you’ve got to deal with about 10 ft of snow per season with a long driveway, the Honda can’t be beat.

thank you.

I tend to overkill (thus the Duramax).

I was looking at two stage blowers but considering your comments a single stage is likely the answer. I certainly do not get Denver snow.

A hondas are great. I have three honda inverter generators and a honda mower.

thank you again

Ariens and Husqvarna are the best and I have both. Husky at home and Ariens at my lab. You’ll need to look at things like ease of moving blower shoot left and right and ease of start. Look closely at the construction of auger and housing. Lower end models like MTD will be thin walled and prone to rust. We get 130-150 in of snow so both my blowers are larger than average 8 HP and 28”.

I forgot about Honda. They’re great too.

I bought my first last season; a single stage Honda HS720AA. All single stage blowers have limitations in terms of power and snow throwing distance. But 6" snowfalls are pretty good sized in my area, so dual stages are an over design for an overwhelming majority of my needs (and that's beyond the fact they're bigger, more expensive, and take up way more storage space).

I probably would have bought electric start if it were available; but those were long gone locally by the time I bought in January after the first big snowfall of the year the previous weekend. Mine has a somewhat more complicated than necessary discharge chute directional control. A simple handle attached to the chute does the job perfectly well with way less to go wrong.

JMO, if you stick with leading brands like Honda or Toro, you'll end up with something comparatively good......though you'll pay an extra $100 or so versus lower end brands available in home centers.

electric start is a must.

I bought a 7500 watt generator for my RV and made sure there was electric start (almost sprung for remote start). I am becoming an old man in spite of the constant offers to pose naked and father children to the available women of the hospital.
