What benefit do they have especially when there is no need for them? At my school we are supposedly out for temperature and wind chill. The only problem with that logic is the wind chill makes it feels like 3 degrees. Yet 2 weeks ago we weren't out when it felt like -11 degrees. Our roads aren't slick either. I live where some of the worst roads are in Bourbon County and I don't think it's slick. There's my rant for the day. Comments, Thoughts, etc.

My school rarely gave us snow days and in the off chance that we did get a snow day, it didn't matter because my basketball coach would still have practice...at the school.

I always thought it was called off for liability reasons and because of the off chance someone got in a wreck in the bad "back roads" areas.

What in the hell dimension are we living in here? High school student, arguing against snow days. You need to put down the trumpet, get out there and meet some people to hang with. Come on man, for the love of God.

Liability. Pure and simple.

The inconsitency is because the superintendent largely looks at each event individually.

My first job doing construction adminstration for my architecture firm was with jenkins independent schools for a renovation of all of their facilities. I used to sit and BS with the superintendent for about an hour after giving him an update on construction progress. During the winter phase of that project he would basically be sitting in his office fretting over whether or not to call school. He told me, "listen, crazy... If i call school and there's no reason, i have parents bitching at me for a month because it throws their entire schedule into whack because they have to find someone to watch their kids. If I don't call school and It's awful, I have parents bitching at me for a month because i have put their precious angel's life in jeopardy. If I don't call school and It's bad, half thr kids won't come and we'll lose funding. If we're in school in the summer, no one is happy."

They had every monday off from january to march as built in snow make up days.

I just don't see a reason to be out today. Honestly I would rather be in school because I want to have a summer. The 68 yard sale is at the beginning of June. I don't want to miss it. I know it's kind of selfish of me, but I'll tell you 90% of the other seniors at my school would rather have more summer than snow days.

I know when I was in school I always wanted snow days but we rarely ever got any in Jefferson County. Right next door in Bullitt County, they constantly got them. We always thought it wasn't fair. We got nearly 3 full months off in the Summer so a few extra days off in the winter was no big deal.

I now live in Bullitt County and my kids are getting those extra days we never got, but the Summer now has lost a couple weeks. The kids love the snow days, but I keep trying to tell them that you will start cutting into your Summer vacation. They don't even care. Most kids are only worried about the here and now.

Band kids appreciate getting out of school early, as should Football players and other fall sports. When you have to be back at school in mid-July, that summer gets pretty short if you're in school until the middle of June.

So true. Oh and this year even though I graduate I'm helping out. Band camp increased another week. Yay!

I hated snow days when I was in high school as well. School was where all my friends were. Even at that young age I knew it wasn't good to sit home and drink alone all day.
Especially when you have no homework. I have to wait now for my teacher to look at my essay for grammar for a scholarship.

I went to a private school in 8th grade that never called school off. The awesome part was my last day of school was April 30th and I didn't start high school until August 25th or close to that date. Basically, I got almost four months off where as the public school kids didn't get out until June.

You just had to push it too far, didn't you? Had a good believable troll setup going until just now. Learn from this going forward.

I look forward to your new username

Fill me in on this because I don't understand the 68 yard reference????

US Highway 68 is host to the world's largest junk/garage sale in the world. Basically, morons and white trash line up along side a major transportation route, dodging cars like frogger to buy and sell their vintage "Ayatollah ***-a-hola" t-shirts and Daytona Beach coaster sets

Also you can find alot of local advertising. I collect alot of advertising from Paris KY including old drugstore bottles and signs.

Actually Millersburg had 4 drugstores at different times. Miller, Conway, Brooks, and Wilson.

Driven through Millersburg a thousand times, probably. I've always wondered what it would be like to live there (sober).

Just wait a year or two for him to die and pass them on to his great-grandchildren. They won't give a **** and you can probably get them on the cheap.

Let me get this rignt.

Your are a high schooler.

You hate being out of school.

Not only do you know what a yard sale is, but you seek them out and frequent them.

You collect pill bottles and drugstore paraphernalia.

Not too shabby, you're going to go places.

I bet trumpetcat is the hottest chick in kentucky and is going to surrender her bosom to the first person who is nice to her on here. Kind of a reverse catphish, beauty and the beast type deal.

Either that or it's actually a highschooler who is obsessed with tim allen (omg) and frequents yard sales.

I choose to believe it's the former.

Careful the home health care workers like to look over the antiques and ask for them.

Liability is the biggest issue, plus some parents won't make their little shorts/sandal wearing kiddies go to school thus attendance suffers...which can ultimately impact ADA funding. I used to tell parents there was always a pretty day in June we could have school.
