Thanks. I will also point out that White’s poor recruiting to the line is what set this year up for being soft against the run and zero pass rush. White knew that he and his family did not want to live in Lincoln for long. He knew that Lincoln was a very temporary stepping stone for him. Therefore, with Nash and Ty around he milked out two decent seasons to pad his resume and (surprise!) left when those two guys were done. He did not recruit well because he didn’t give a sh$t. He knew he was going to be gone.
That means he had no real respect for, or loyalty to, Rhule. It also means Rhule was clueless about what White was really going to do. He knew White would leave, and even spoke publicly about White getting a head coaching job, but he was clearly taken by surprise when White bolted for a struggling FSU program.
Butler was a panic hire therefore. Butler is a decent coach I think when it comes to the nuts and bolts of defense. But not an inspiring guy, not a motivator, and not a good recruiter. He made for an easy scapegoat.
Year four coming up and Rhule is still groping around trying to put together a stable coaching staff that knows how to win and who can gel together as a staff. If what Phil Snow says is true, then it is clear that there was no cohesion, comraderie, or common vision among the coaches. Not a good sign.
