I can't think of any big snow games in recent history. Has there been any?

I'd love to see it. Take a little something out of St. Larry's pass offense. Hopefully just play keep away from the explosive Viking attack, pound the rock.

Not recent but I remember MS beating Lincoln-Way in the 2000 semifinal game. I can still picture the snow coming down late in the game. Hawks won in 2 OT probably helped me remember too!

I remember this one well. It was starting to get dark, snow falling, field frozen, and the extra point kick that won it hit the cross bar and bounced over. I also remember I almost lost a toe or two that day - coldest game I've ever covered.

1979 Joliet Catholic vs Julian Prep Bowl was in a blizzard.1976 St Laurence Glenbard West was pretty cold and I was there but only 5.It either snowed then or right before. The 1982 Reavis vs New Trier game was cold and snowed a bit then but a lot before

The Iowa Athletic Association tonight canceled their three remaining state football championships. They were to be played indoors at Northern Iowa University Friday. Because of snow forcast for the Cedar Rapids area, the games will be played Monday at Northern Iowa University.

You figure he snow to be a factor for sure but I think the cold is a huge factor. Don't think theirs been a game played below 40 this year and yet all of them will be Saturday. Should make for some interesting story lines

The games are being played indoors and they still were postponed? Holy hell no.

Two championship games come to mind for me, on the opposite side of the spectrum.
In 1993 Marian Catholic beat Geneseo 13-6 Game time temp was 28 and featured sleet coming down throughout the game.
WWS beat Barrington 42-14 in the 1998 game temp hit 68 degrees that day, though the game was played at night and the temp had dropped to 58 by then.
Both games were played at ISU.
Incidentally, a side bar, I think that WWS team is the best team I have seen in 25 years of watching HS football. Barrington was very good that year but three or four plays into the game WWS had covered 75 yards and was up 7-0, took all of 90 seconds and the rout was on.

No doubt the snow and cold will be a factor because this is moving in tonight and tomorrow. That first shot of cold seems even colder till we get used to it. But don't forget the wind as well. A cold wind can be tough and it will pick up some as the snow moves through. Wind speeds are forecast to be in the high teens or low 20s as the snow moves out. Dress for it and bring more than you think you need.

And Iowa is soft
There probably too cheap for road salt like our neighbor to the east. Wisconsin has the dry cold so snow usually doesnt seem asmuch of a factor (though upper Lake is gonna get 6 or more tomorrow)

Almost sounds like the Althoff/BMD game will be played in balmy conditions, relatively speaking!!

The one team I truly think the weather playing a huge factor for is Marist with their crazy passing numbers.

Don't bring my cell phone on the field LOL.
But looking forward to it, In my 20+ years I have never had anything like this predicted at least not on the football field. Had to cancel a baseball game a few years back because of snow.

I know you are all happy for me, but I remember practicing for the CGSC all star game in like 4-5 inches of snow, and I believe the game was played in a few inches of it as well. Was very fun.

Show's how the weather in the few months of the high school football season in Illinois can go from sweltering heat indexes to wind chill readings.

Here in Darien (HS), we have 3-4 inches of slushy snow. If it stops snowing as predicted 2-3PM, the field should be fine by game time (6PM). I think the cold will be more of a factor.

Which is exactly what I said before and don't forget the wind. The snow can be moved.
