Ben Carson’s campaign admitted to Politico on Friday that the story of Carson’s application and acceptance into West Point was fabricated.

Politico cited a West Point spokeswoman who said the military academy had no record of Carson’s application; Carson’s campaign, in response, “conceded the story was false.” Politico noted:

“The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, ‘Gifted Hands,’ the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a ‘full scholarship’ to the military academy.”

Yes, he's toast. Rubio and Cruz will be the biggest beneficiaries, imo.

The same organizations that took out Ryan will take out Rubio. They haven't forgot his support of amnesty or how his major donors do too.

He his most likely finished.... On a side note; My wife visited an Ophthalmologist today and he turned out to be a WVU grad. Took him about 10 minutes to tell her she had a floater. Took us about 30 minutes to discuss the state of WVU football.

I'm really surprised at this. It certainly is a harmless lie, but a really stupid thing to brag about, knowing the fact check machine will find the truth. I'd imagine the press will certainly dig in now and we'll see what he's really made of.

my favorite Ben Carson story: http://www.christianpost.com/news/b...istry-exam-by-giving-answers-in-dream-138913/ While studying for a chemistry test, he fell asleep. A "nebulous figure" appeared to him in a vision and gave him the test questions. Uh-huh. Around here, we call that something else.
I didn't need God's help to get through my first two semesters of general chemistry at WVU. Organic chemistry was a different story though. I made a C in both classes. I'll never forget-after the first organic test, the 150 or so people in the class dwindled down to about 50. Hardest class I've ever taken. Dr. MacDowell was a real ***. Dr. Muth wasn't much better..

Totally agree and the press should. Even though certain people on the right objects, the public deserves to know as much as possible. Righties scream that point on things like Benghazi but always want to sweep problems on their side under the rug. Sickening.

Politico lied? Nah.
No. Carson lied. He was offered a scholarship to West Point as much as i was. Difference being, I didn't write a book telling the reader that I did.

"I was offered a full scholarship to West Point," Carson wrote. "I didn't refuse the scholarship outright, but I let them know that a military career wasn't where I saw myself going. As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn't really tempted. The scholarship would have obligated me to spend four years in military service after I finished college, precluding my chances to go on to medical school."

"I was the highest student ROTC member in Detroit and was thrilled to get an offer from West Point," wrote Carson. "But I knew medicine is what I wanted to do. So I applied to only one school. (It was all the money I had). I applied to Yale and thank God they accepted me."

While I admit I was starting not to like some of Carson's recent kind-of off-the-wall comments.....it's almost like somebody has been counseling him to start making psuedo-outrageous comments in order to sort-of raise (or lower) himself verbally to Trump's level.....I'm sorry this issue has come to light. As has already been discussed here, its damned-hard to reconcile since it has nothing to do with the candidate today. Maybe be sloughs it off and maybe he doesn't; and speaking of Trump, it'll be interesting to see how (or if) he uses it.

If he were a white Dem would you care?

Probably not as much as you if he were a black Dem.......

Trump will be all over this. Cruz probably will too. This is probably a Lee Atwater-type GOP dirty trick like 41's campaign did to mccain in SC years ago. Some of the worst stuff comes from the primary. Regardless, Carson wrote his book 6 years ago. The written word can be scrutinized by anyone. Any journalist worth his salt is looking for a story. When you bill yourself as Dr. Clean and Pure, you better really be that. Somebody will find something out. Glad I'm not running.

You are correct; to viscerally claim this is all a left wing smear is myopic. This is as much an RNC establishment driven agenda as it is a liberal push--his days as a legitimate presidential candidate are numbered. The people in the know on both sides of the aisle have put this plan in motion.

More like a poor choice of words. You can't even be offered a scholarship if you didn't apply. But the left's dragging every Republican through the mud machine is fully operational.

If West Point wants someone, they will do whatever to get their person. My nephew WAS recruited to play football at West Point and he was aided every step of the process to end up there. He ended up at West Point. It is also reasonable to assume that if a person of Westmorelands stature encouraged Carson to apply and West Point officials, told him they could help him get an appointment it was indeed tantamount to a "scholarship" offer.

Very good and truthful. I too have some experience about this process and is very accurate. I don't understand THE comment of you can't be offered a scholarship without applying. Even though the academies don't give scholarships in a normal sense, that comment is not true in any sense. Yes, schools can offer scholarships during the application process but they are also available before. There are many factors involved.
