Technically he could get one but he won't apply for one.
Because he has another yr of eligibilty anyway. You actually think he will stay here for 2 more yrs? He's probably finishing a degree this yr anyway.Originally posted by BigBlueFanGA:

Again, why would you waste an opportunity you could need? I already said he doesn't have to use it, but why would someone not take every opportunity to protect themselves. For all we know, and Alex for that matter, he may need both years to fully prove himself to the NBA. What logical reason would one use to not apply for a redshirt.Originally posted by UKBrassowTipIN:

Because he isn't sticking around for two more years. He will graduate at the end of this year, if he chooses to come back next year, that will be it. It's doubtful that his draft stock is changing much at this point so other than proving he's healthy, he has nothing else to gain.Originally posted by BigBlueFanGA:

Thing with Alex though; he's a top ranked student who will be graduating with his bachelor's this year. If his draft stock doesn't improve much, ,I can see him staying to get his masters - and/or working on further. He is too smart, too good a student; and, I think, loves school.Originally posted by fuzz77:

Look, I'd love to have him around for two more years....don't see it happening.
This. He can apply ANY time he wants. It will be an automatic approval. There are zero reasons why it won't be granted if he asks for it.Originally posted by TruBluCatFan:
And he doesn't have to apply until after next season so he has another year to decide assuming he comes back next year.

Sounds right to me. Having options is never a bad thing for anyone.Originally posted by BigBlueFanGA:
If he wants one, yes. You apply after the season when the injury occurred. He should request it, just in case. He doesn't have to use it. Not requesting it would be foolish in my opinion.
No preacher, I don't think so. I think he has to apply after this season is over, but this year. Back to the folks who think he won't bother because he isn't playing 2 more years. Can you please explain why he wouldn't take every precaution, just in case? He doesn't have to use it. I don't understand some of the posts in this thread.Originally posted by preacherfan:

Having said that, I would be shocked to see him play more than one more year.
