So far, Lane is not killing it in the portal

To this point, at least, Lane, the portal king, has not done the damage in the portal that folks thought he would do with LSU's resources behind him. What's notable is that several top Ole Miss players, who were widely believed to be likely transfer targets to LSU have opted to return to Ole Miss. Most notably, Trinidad Chambliss, who Kiffin plucked from FCS and was the key to the Ole Miss CFP run, has decided not to follow Kiffin to LSU. Kiffin also whiffed on QB transfer Brendan Sorsby, who chose Texas Tech over Kiffin and LSU. It sounds like he's probably going to land 2x transfer Sam Leavitt.

I still have this feeling (based off gut, no evidence) that a few Ole Miss players will jump ship to LSU. Public comments aside.

Players may be justifiably skittish of going to a Lane coached team. He has shown he will throw the team under the bus if he gets a good opportunity and players may not want to hitch their wagon to him.

I had that thought as well.

Why follow a guy who dumped you mid-season?

To play for a really good team.

Think about it, we're questioning if Lane's free agency is an issue to free agents who are out shopping for different teams. They have no loyalty to the teams, or the coaches either.

Why not? New team. New contract, prob more money. New hoes to chase around. New profs that will never see you. Leave behind unpaid parking tickets. Its exactly what an irresponsible future payor of my Soc Sec would want.

LSU had #1 portal player Sam Levitt on campus for a visit and all signs pointed to Leavitt landing at LSU. However, Lane pivoted to Demond Williams when he announced his intent to transfer from UW. Leavitt then turned his attention to Tennessee where he is on a visit and has extended it.

It would be funny if Lane misses out on both after he also whiffed on Sorsby.

The initial rumor was that Lane expected Chambliss to follow him to Baton Rouge. So I would chalk that up as an L as well.

Yep. Missed on Chambliss. Missed on Sorsby. Had Leavitt in his back pocket but got greedy and wanted Williams instead. Williams changed his mind and Leavitt moved on apparently.

I would bet Lane will be gone in 1-1.5 years to the NFL again. I wouldn't follow him either.

I don't wonder if Lane's reputation isn't finally catching up to him to some extent. The way he ditched his Ole Miss players at the biggest moment in program history is a MASSIVE negative recruiting tool to by used by opposing coaches. If he a had national title or two under his belt, it probably wouldn't matter. But so far, he's never won anything as a head coach and he's demonstrated over the entirety of his career that he is Lane first, Lane always, Lane only. Maybe things will turn out just fine and he'll clean up in recruiting and the portal, but you absolutely know opposing coaches are saying "Hey, look what he did at Tennessee. Look what he did at Ole Miss. Why do you think he'll do any different with you?"
