So has Pope's comments on officiating had an effect on foul calls going forward?

UGA is 2-5 in the SEC to this point. In their 2 wins the free throw discrepancy is 75-28 in favor of UGA. After our game Pope made his public comments about fouls and now it seems UGA isn't getting the favorable whistle they were. In those 5 losses, 4 of which came after Popes comments on officiating, the free throws are 93-100 in favor of the opponents. So they were averaging 37.5 free throws per game in the wins and since Pope made his public comments they are now averaging 19 per game. I remember some saying it wasn't the refs and that UGA just plays a more aggressive style of taking it to the hole and that is why they shot more free throws than us. Have they quit playing that way now or are the refs not falling for all the flops and flailing of their arms and head after orders from the SEC conference office?

All I know UGA was very physical in that game yet UK was called for all those fouls.

Anything Pope said would have no effect on ensuing Georgia games. It might have an effect on ensuing Kentucky games.

I know they beat us, but I just don’t think UGA is a good team. They kind of snuck up in the first part of the SEC, and we’ve seen how refs get swayed by a rowdy home crowd. Since that week of beating UK and OK, they’ve lost 4 straight games and have looked pretty bad. I don’t think Pope had anything to do with it, they just played above their game for that one week at home and had a crowd influence on the refs.

Sure seems like it may have had an effect.

And regardless, every entity needs to have checks and balances. The officiating crews need to be held accountable. I'm extremely pleased with the way Pope handled this. He basically gave a warning shot to the SEC and NCAA in that he's going to start reviewing the calls to see how they can make adjustments. That was a polite way of saying "fix your ****".

Pope should have said something to the refs during the games. If he had UK might not be dealing with the injuries to Carr and Butler. Those refs let the other teams beat the hell of UK players to the point that now they are injured just from the overly physical play. Or maybe not but we will never know. As a whole CBB needs to clean up the illegal screens out top because they are always moving or throwing a shoulder or hip and they need to clean up the mugging going on in the low post. I'm amazed that anyone can stay in front of their man with those illegal screens and in the low post the defender is allowed to push and shove and grab but when the offensive player tries to get physical they call a foul.

If they are going to call them like the Vandy game, flak jackets need to be part of the uniform.

They should have won at Arkansas. That 2nd half was the absolute worst game ever called. It made our UGA game look completely unbiased.
Who knows who or what is to blame but the officials are not that bad. There is a clear agenda being directed by someone.

I agree on illegal screens. It amazes me how many times guys set a moving pick, throw a shoulder or hip into a defender or actually get set and when the defender runs into the pick he starts going to the basket and taking the defender with him as he does to clear him out.

If you watched UT vs Auburn you saw a game that was as poorly officiated as our game vs UGA. The question is how will that game effect the UT/UK game tonight. My guess is that if we breathe hard on a UT player it will be a foul and UT will have to draw blood before having a foul called on them.

The crowd will influence the refs from the opening whistle, it won't be pretty.

It does have an effect. Just not the one you want

Years ago schools could blackball 2 or 3 officials from calling their games. Maybe still can?

I remember Joe B saying no one did it because the other officials rallied around the ones you blackballed and made you wish you hadn’t.

I see Tennessee driving and initiating contact and waiting for and getting the call. Auburn plays up close on the offense, we don’t and we will have a hard time keeping Ziegler out of the lane unless we play match up zone.

You can guarantee that bunch of basketball illiterate fans will boo everything. They always do and it drives me insane. I'm not sure they know what is or what is not a good call.

It may have hurt Georgia. But it hasn’t helped us.
