Thanks to Uber, I will be in attendance. I'm 2 for 3 (Norfolk, Providence, MSU), so perhaps we have a chance.

Can we win?

I say we win tonight. Because a Cat never loses hope.

The 30% chance KenPom gives us seems right. If our wave of bigs can stay out of foul trouble against Garza and control layups and rebounds ... maybe. Garza is really good, but we did hold him to zero last year in Iowa City.

Need to contain McCaffery and Wiseman as well and don’t let them have anything easy.

I think we have a decent shot to win, given that Iowa lost at Nebraska last week and is down to essentially 7 players with their top 3-point threat CJ Fredrick having missed the past two games and is currently day-to-day.

Their two PGs are both very turnover-prone, so it will come down to our ability to keep their bigs out of the lane, double on Garza when he gets there, and bait them into taking 3's (Kreiner and Garza are a combined 5-25 from 3), while Turner will need to lock down Weiskamp if we're going to have a shot. Garza is averaging a mindblowing 21 shots per game along with 8 FT attempts while Weiskamp shoots 15 times per game.

Need to force Iowa to beat us with their other guys.

You mean Wieskamp? Last 4 B1G games scored 26/21/23/23. Only the first game he was in single digits with 7
Garza should have a field day on the offensive glass. Once we adjust, Wieskamp will get open looks. Too bad we don’t have Boo for this game as I think he could get by Iowa’s guards.

If we can slow down the Iowa offense, we should have a chance. I'm sure that we'll play a fair amount of zone defense. Garza in the paint and on the offensive glass will be a concern. So will the outside shooting of Joe Wieskamp and CJ Fredrick--who are a combined 59 for 137 (.430) on the season.

Don't think we can infer anything from it but last year we could have won both games.

At home, lead in the 2nd half, even if not playing great.

Away, we had one biblical collapse.

Garza is a beast, the No. 1 scorer in the Big Ten at 22 points per game. We'll see if Ryan Young is up to the task, though NU will probably double him every time he touches it in the post.

This is an interesting contrast in styles. Iowa is the No. 1 scoring offense in the conference, while NU is last. Iowa is shorthanded, though. This will be all about who can control the tempo.

Think Jones may see quite a bit of times on Garza?

I don’t know about that. While Garza is an excellent B1G player, I actually think Young can hold up fairly well against him. Garza has a great motor and very good fundamentals, but Young is big and fairly stout, also plays with discipline and a good motor. I think he will be outplayed but able to hang in there. It’s the overwhelming athlete big man types with size strength and quickness (like IL and maybe MSU) that worry me with our current roster, moreso than Garza. We also have better depth of bigs right now than guards. Wieskamp might be more difficult to guard with our lack of depth at wing right now. I bet we use the double team on Garza like we used to do against Happ of WI. That said, would not at all be shocked if I’m totally wrong and Garza drops 25/12.

With the likely double teams, means that if Iowa shoots well from 3 we may be in trouble, but if we move well on D and they don’t shoot great we can hang around and give ourselves a chance. Sounds like a lot of games in the B1G.

I like watching Garza. Guy has an amazing work rate (to use a soccer term). He has as much vertical leap as Young but always seems to be in the right place at the right time for rebounds. And he is magic around the basket. If Ryan can be 80% as good as Luka (Brasi) Garza NU will be in good shape.

We’ll play zone and pray they don’t remember to drive into it and split it.
