We seemed to have gotten side tracked on adopting a dog. Now we need to get back to what is really important. Is the mega fight going to happen between the Neck tatted pit bull owner v/s the guy who thinks he is really witty but is not funny at all ? Hell this has Mayweather / Mcgregor potential.

I'm partial to the "go to the human society/pound, look for a dog that looks like it meets your size and hair criteria that acts friendly." You should be able to get a decent feel for the dog's personality pretty quickly. You can even go home, come back, meet it again on a different day. I have a mutt my wife got as a puppy from a friend whose dog got knocked up, but my sister has had great luck twice with the picking one out based on meeting it at the pound. Second one got a bit destructive when left alone at times (mostly at mine or my dad's house when she was out of town and we were watching him, lol) but that's something you could encounter with any dog. They've both (German Shepherd/Rottweiler and Beagle/Border Collie mixes) been incredibly friendly and close bonding.

Ganner, we went to two shelters but couldn't find "the" one we wanted. A friend of mine had a friend of hers who had a dog who got knocked up and was trying to give away pups. So far, I think we got a good dog.

haha! Go to www.imgur.com and have the folder your picture is in open. Click on the file, drag it over the page anywhere, and let go. It will upload. On the page that comes up, right click on the image and click copy image address (assuming you're on Windows... this is what it says in Chrome on Windows 7). Come back here, click the Image button that's right between the smiley face and the film reel buttons at the top of the reply box, paste the link in the dialog that comes up, and click insert. That'll do it!
I've got it on imgur.com, but the "copy image address" doesn't come up. I'm on a %^&%*^(& Chromebook, and every thing is 10 times more difficult, at least for me. (I'm sure that has nothing to do with it, lol, I'm just technically an idiot, and I admit it).

He HAS to be a smart pup; he immediately took possession of my son's UK blanket. He's resigned himself it now belongs to Spike, ha, ha.

We had to help one of ours cross the bridge yesterday. We brought her home 11 years ago as a shy rescue with a severe heart condition so she could die with a family. We gave her 2 heart pills per day and she hung in like a champ.
We're "down" to 2 Airedales, a Bassett Hound, a Great Dane, and 2 cats now. No, we can't have kids. Our adoption attempts have been dumpster fires. We have over compensated.

I think I have that exact same throw blanket. I gave our dog a different one before he could claim mine.[laughing] Our beagle just had the fun experience of chasing rabbits in the backyard. Rarely see any out during the day in our yard. He just missed catching one by a couple feet my daughter said. Then he proceeded to smell the whole yard afterwards. Hope he doesn't catch any and brings them to the door.
Well I was prepared to hate your pup when you said it looked like the picture Mash posted, but I love it. That is such cute puppy.
Me & Mrs. 93 were walking Norman yesterday. We saw the guy that owned Candy, a 14 yo yellow lab that had cancer. He said he had to put her down last week. We could tell he was hurting. Norman sensed it too, and just laid down in the grass to let the guy let him for a while.
When Norman and Candy met on walks, we could drop their leashes and they would just circle each other and sniff. That was their thing.
It's gonna suck when Norman goes.

So far at least this pup sheds very, very little. Upon reflection, this wasn't really that big of an issue, seeing as how much my son and this pup have bonded. Right now my only thing is to get it housebroken. It doesn't seem to be capable of finding the pee pads; it often gets close, ha, ha, but right now if prefers rugs more that it does the pee pads. I bought a brush to brush it's coat, but thus far haven't had much need for it.
Two of my friends have large dogs, and both of those dogs shed quite a bit; so much so that just one walking by you and brushing up against your pant leg leaves an incredible amount of hair on your pants. I guess that's where I felt a smaller dog, with short hair, would shed less.

But the vast, vast, vast majority of dogs aren't trained killers. (Very few home owners pony up thousands of dollars for trained guard dogs) Most are just family pets.....which can be protective of family members and young ones, but often times they aren't as protective when the house is empty. I've seen documentaries and shows about burglars and burglary. Then later on used to watch the show "It Takes a Thief." In fact, after my college apartment was broken into I wrote a 10 pg research paper over the subject from my Behavioral Psychology class.
Most burglars will tell you that they can walk into a home with confidence, toss a treat, lock the dog in a closet, and get to work within just a minute or two. Some burglars have even played fetch with the dogs for a while before leaving. In fact, having trained guard dogs isn't a true deterrent. There were several guys in the documentary that I saw that noted that they went to the home 5-6x to get to know the dog while the owners are out.......then after they get comfortable with the dog, they'll rob it. In fact, one guy got so attached to a Doberman that when they robbed the place, he took the Doberman with him and made it his house pet.
But you are right. Burglars, like many criminals, look for the path of least resistance. If they are looking at 2 identical homes......one has a ADT sticker in the window and the other doesn't, they'll go with the one without the alarm. But dogs are not the level of deterrent that alarms are. And the type of dog doesn't matter as much as home owners would like to believe.
