So, nothing has changed?

I only caught the second half last night since ESPN switched channels faster than my DVR could keep up, but nothing I saw last night looked anything different from last year, other than Audige taking more than his fair share of awful shots. Young worked his *** off and kept us in the game, Beran's and Nance's defense was a liability, the entire team is soft and got outworked on the boards, we took bad shot after bad shot while seeming to have very few ideas in the halfcourt offense. This team is just mentally broken and that falls on the coaching staff. I've long been of the mindset that Collins' fate should be decided following next year if we don't make the tourney, but I was expecting to see an NIT-caliber team this year, not one that loses to one of the worst teams in the ACC after leading all game.

The turning points in the game that I saw were:
With ~8 minutes left in the game, Buie hit 2 FTs to put us up 54-48. The subsequent Pitt possession went Missed Shot, Offensive Rebound, Missed Shot, Offensive Rebound, Made Layup and 1, Missed FT, Offensive Rebound, Blocked Layup, Offensive Rebound, Made 3PT. 5 shots, 4 offensive boards, 5 points, and a 6 point lead is now 1.

With ~3:30 left in the game, Young hit 2 FTs to put us up 66-58. Then Nance commits a dumb foul after losing his man on a dunk to give an and-1, Buie jacks up an ill-advised 3, Pitt scores again, and Audige jacks up an ill-advised 3.

Even then we still were doing fine! Until with 30 seconds left when Buie gets trapped at 70-67 and forgets that we have 2 timeouts to call, turning it over to give them an easy bucket before missing the two FTs that allowed Pitt to win when Beran was ballwatching and lost his man who hit the winning bucket.

This was an unacceptable loss, full stop. It does not bode well for the upcoming gauntlet.

Man ... glad I turned the game off at halftime. It was nearly unwatchable even when we were winning.

Do you realize that your post just made me re-live that awfulness all over again. I was starting to calm down until this. 😤
