And this is the 3rd under Collins. This also looks like the second one that can get to more than 20 wins. Still not sure why the Collin's first 20 win season did not get to NIT

Because in 2016 they went 18-1 against quad 3/4 teams and 2-11 against quad 1/2 teams. Their non con strength of schedule was third worst in the country. Their best win was at home over a 7 seed in the tourney, their next best win was over a 3 seed in the NIT.

I am not saying NCAA but rather NIT. That 20 wins got nothing....

Our RPI that year was in the one teens if I remember correctly. Definitely not NCAA worthy and if such a thing existed not even in the next four out for the NIT.

We weren’t a bad team but like Cappy said just didn’t get it done against good teams to build our resume.

Right, because we went 7-0 against the 10th through 14th place teams in conference and 1-10 against 1 through 8. We beat Virginia tech, Loyola MD, Sacred Heart, DePaul, Chicago State, Mississippi Valley State, New Orleans, SIU Edwardsville, Columbia, UMass Lowell, Fairfield and SEC last-place Missouri. So yes, those 20 wins got us nothing.

how sobering...

And then we lost recruits to VaTech.
What ever happened to the days of beating DePaul and winning the recruiting battles for guys like Dennis Gorman?!? (sigh - what a mountain we've had to climb as a program the last 35+ years)

Thanks @CoralSpringsCat. I’m plenty cheery thanks to the current play from our team. I was just surprised that one of the previous best records in recent history was so diluted by SOS. My comment was more just an acknowledgement of the MBB recruiting efforts in the 1980’s and how far we’ve fallen in this and last year. Hopeful and enthusiastic that a focused effort from CCC and team, along with some favorable dynamics with the Portal allow MBB to claw back to respectability and beyond.

NU MBB has always been a tough recipe of talent, athleticism, attitude and grades. Hopefully this cinderella season continues long into the post-season and resonates with some promising high-schoolers and portal candidates!
