It is a crap shoot when you have weather like this morning/afternoon. You can't assume a college would have been any better for the 1pm games. Soldier Field probably would have been worse than most based on the history of that field management. All the late afternoon/early evening games seemed fine but only because the show stopped a few hours earlier. No one really got a home field advantage with the conditions. Style of play was the only advantage for run oriented teams

Also attendance could have been very poor if everyone had to travel. No one would have had an easy drive around 11am

Besides, almost every team in Chicago has turf which makes the conditions much better than a mud/slush/snow bowl.

I saw some highlights of the ISU game and that field seemed as snow covered as the rest. You would think that would be a site for neutral field games. Not sure what other locations you would have but most would not have much more seating than the bigger high school stadiums. Plus you would be adding a lot of costs to rent the facility, transport and lodge the teams. Current system seems fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

When you say neutral site, would that also include going to other high schools such as they do in basketball, or are you just referring to Soldier, Toyota, Ryan, Hancock, Ryan, and Concordia?

Why? If anything they should be at the home if the higher ranked team...like the NFL

I could live with that, my main reason for a neutral site is that too many times the lower seed hosts the semi final game.

Then you say change it so that the higher seed always gets to host, but then you have the argument where a team who is 7-2 with a much tougher strength of schedule gets screwed because a team that went 9-0 had a much easier schedule. I just think its too important of a game and deciding who "is" the higher seed is too tough of a task for the IHSA

Now wait a minute: Minus Crete-HS (which was in my opinion a toss-up game) the favorite won every game in the higher classes today (I have no idea about downstate 1A-4A). Isn't that what's supposed to happen?

? What does the expected outcome have to do with who rightfully should host a semifinal game.

Ex even though Naz was the favorite and won, they should have been the one hosting the semi final game not SL, but then that's why I said that a neutral site is best, because when using this example we all know Naz should be the higher seed, but with the way the IHSA seeds teams, they often don't get it right under the current system.

it all comes down to how teams are seeded and such, because it was unfair JCA had to play Naz at Naz with the season they had (I know it wasn't a semi final game but is the main part of the problem)

There's 3 points I don't like about the playoff system.

1. Playoff Points/Seeding Process (although I don't know a better way)
2. Low seeds host big games
3. Big Matchups very early on. (See HF-LA, GW-MC, and JCA-Naz)

Having neutral sites for football playoffs in which almost every school has a turf field and enough seats to host similiar sized schools we don't need a neutral sites. If you can somehow fix point 1 point 3 becomes moot.

If illinois had an enclosed stadium, like at UNI in Iowa, the Edgy could have a point. But until then, there is no perfect-in-every-situation solution, so I think the current system is pretty good, or as good as it gets.

Seems to me if you do this for the semi's, soon you'll be asking for this in the quarters, and then....

If H-F doesn't lose to the Brook then they would have been a high seed. It's their fault they had to face Loyola that early. Sure they are big matchups early but nobody's fault but the schools for having the record they did.

That was besides the point but yes ref2 you are correct.

If the IHSA was really money hungry they could do it like the NCAA does for the FCS playoff games. Make the school bid on hosting home games in the first two rounds

If games were at neutral sites, would you get the outpouring of community support like you did this past weekend?

I got to the field 2 hours before game time and there were people from all over the community who came out to shovel snow off the field. Even parents who didn't have kids on the team. Here is a story I wrote about Palatine.

I am sure this kind of effort went on at other host schools. If the games were at neutral sites, would they have been played?
