So when does the undefeated talk reach fever pitch? (no jinx)

It's been talked about a lot obviously but it hasn't been a distraction yet. The talk will grow with each win but at what point do you think it gets to the point where it is THE talk of college basketball, and possibly just sports in general?

Firstly Virginia has to lose so there is just Kentucky remaining as the lone unbeaten (no jinx). Get through this weekend and next week and Kentucky will be 21-0. Following Super Bowl Sunday most casual sports fans will begin paying closer attention to the NBA and college basketball. Kentucky then has UGA, at Florida and at LSU. Win those three games to reach 24-0 and then I think things start to get serious and even casual sports fans will start to take notice.

It will only get worse (or better depending on how you look at it) from there but hypothetically I think that is the moment when it really starts to look like a legitimate, attainable thing that will be impossible to ignore.

I'm going to say that it will reach its apex right after Selection Sunday. Because at that point, incidentally, records mean nothing. With the exception of the national champion, every other team in the country is going to end their season with a loss.

If we make it through the road games with Florida and LSU, and UVA loses, it will be THE story in sports.

Since the vast majority of America doesn't give a **** about CBB until the tournament, it won't really reach astronomical levels until March (assuming we stay unbeaten, obviously).

Well week to week it can get to a fever pitch because the media is doing its best to keep the pressure on. It's funny how they never put the same kind of pressure on Virginia (granted they have a much tougher stretch going forward but still).

I would say if we get to the SEC tournament unbeaten, it will be there and even more so if we come out as the SEC tourney champs! That is a ton of pressure but if anyone can help our young men handle the pressure it is Cal.

TV has already gotten swept up in it. The promo for the SCjr game says "Kentucky continues its pursuit of perfection..."

I think it will ramp up when UVA gets beaten, or if both finish the regular season undefeated.

The worst part is that we will have a loaded bracket to wade through in that case. On the bright side, we usually play better against better opponents. No matter the fever pitch, the team will be trying to win the championship not go undefeated. A loss at that point is not ruining your undefeated hopes but your title hopes. The pressure goes down at that point on the team.

I will be a nervous wreck. I won't be able to enjoy a game till we take number nine.

I say it starts to explode if we hit 20-0 and media outlets start realizing that it's been nearly 5o yrs since a UK team did that.

Folks will start soiling their drawers at that point.

We're gonna lose a game in the next few weeks IMO so it won't ever reach a fever pitch.

I just think that somebody will beat us on the road...

I hate for UK to lose, but I do hope we lose tomorrow just to get it over with so the talk of going undefeated will stop.

ANSWER: IF the 'Cats finish the regular season undefeated, and IF the 'Cats win the SEC Tournament, THEN the discussion of an undefeated season will reach its fever pitch contemporaneously with the opening games of the NCAA Tournament.

As other's have said it's been talked about plenty, but I myself am not going to completely consider it possible for quite some time. At this point, 5 games in, the league has split itself with 7 teams having losing records, and 7 having winning one's. 4 of UK's 5 games have come against that bottom 7, and the next 3 are as well. So if the split remains, which is a big if granted, that means 7 of UK's last 10 games will be against teams in the upper half including at UT, UF, UGa, and LSU. So despite 3 fairly close calls the Cat's definitely have the toughest part of their SEC schedule ahead of them. Our last road game, and next to last game is at Georgia. If we win that one, and are 30-0 then I'll start to say we could go undefeated. But not until then.

Sorry but UK isn't losing tomorrow. I feel a big win coming on.

Good post Boulder but what is so good about that is it gives this young team time to continue to gel and get better. The longer the season goes on the harder it's going to be to beat this young team simply because their individual ceilings are so high and since they play as one so is the teams.

I thought all along that our toughest game was going to be at UL and it was tough but guess what? UK bossed.
It's going to be very hard to beat this team from here on out.

February 11th.

If UK is still undefeated then, they'll be 24-0, just having won at Florida and at LSU in a 4 day span. 4 of the last 7 are home games (though I'm not sure that's a good thing this year), and one of the road games is Miss St. If UK still has a 0 to the right of the record column on 2/11, then the talk is going to start to grow exponentially.

I agree with the posters who said if they remain undefeated at the end of the regular season, that's when it kicks into high gear

If we get to early April undefeated, there will be an extreme media hype storm. I wouldn't mind if both Kentucky and Virginia made it to the Final Four undefeated. That would make for a very unique Championship matchup.
