Meh. The interim did a better job than he did.
I am not a big fan of Fitzgerald. I always thought he was an odd coach. Like Rhule a 53% winning coach. 5-5 in bowl games. More wins than Rhule against ranked teams 14-40. A lot of the wins were against ranked Wisconsin teams. Nebraska in 2011. I do not think he ever beat Ohio State or Michigan when they were ranked.

I think he did a fair job as Northwestern’s coach. I’m just not sure he can win enough and deal with the crap he’s going to get at MSU. Maybe it works.

FItz is going to do fine, but not light the B1G on fire. I expect a product similar to what Illinois has shown. He will still be #2 in the state and about #4 regionally behind OSU, Michigan, Penn State.

Which eventually will get him fired…

Now I like him but his last few years he was pretty average without his DC. A good shot though at a school that needs to out physical teams to have a shot.

Geo Tech and Vandy heads coach have been benefiting from great QB play. Let’s see what they do next year and the year after.

Vanderbilt has resources and they actually started using them for football. They aren't going to be a doormat anymore.

This is a good time to point out that just because a donation is made, doesn't mean it is spent right away. A lot of schools have set up funds for NIL. While Nebraska seems to spend it just as fast as they get it. I wouldn't say either method is necessarily better, but is situational.

Interesting hire, Fitzgerald really fell off his last few years at NWU. But then again, renewed vitality could make a world of difference. This is kind of middle of the road, don't particularly like it or dislike the hire.

With that kind of money, you would have to imagine it becomes some sort of endowment, with the profits then used to fund whatever. Now I'm no expert so a decent chance everything I said is completely inaccurate.

Yes a lot of schools have already set up endowment funds for NIL. Nebraska pretty much spends it as quickly as it gets it, which is fine for what we want to do. If we could just nix the stupid stadium project, we could probably set up an endowment fund for NIL too.

Doesn't he kid play for iowa and didn't iowa fans think he was there next coach? My god, this is classic.

Also, without his old DC he is going to be a mess.
Fitz’s son is a 4th string QB at Iowa. I assume he may follow his dad to MSU? Iowa should be able to “survive” that. 😉
