Sitting here watching my kid pound down some mac n cheese with the game on in the background and thought I would post about a few things:
1. The funniest thing about the 3 Mitch hires (Papa Brooks, Joker and Stoops) is, at the time, I thought the Joker and Stoops hires were both good hires and I thought the Brooks hire was a bad one. I know many will disagree on my take on the Joker hire, but when he was made HCIW, we were coming off two very impressive years of offense, he was a UK guy and I just thought it was a great way to keep the momentum going. I was obviously wrong. I thought the Stoops hire was a good one. Had a plan for recruiting, had passion, came from a very good program as a DC....I was wrong on that one too. When Papa Brooks was hired, I wanted Doug Williams...I was 0 for 3.
2. I still honestly believe that upper administration likes Mitch. That is the biggest issue here. He does everything a president (who come from UAB, a non-football school) like Eli loves. He keeps the program clean, he gives money back to the University, he put $65 million into the Science Building, he graduates athletes....all of those things, to a President who really has no athletic background love. I firmly believe, that regardless of football, Mitch isn't going anywhere, unless he leaves on his own.
3. I still didn't mind the Stoops hire. Like I said, I thought it was a good hire at the time. What I do mind is the extension. It was 100% completely unnecessary and has put us in a situation where it's going to be very expensive, and maybe not possible to get rid O's Stoops.
4. Mitch has hired a "rogue" coach (per media) in the past when he hired Dennis Erickson at Oregon State. His last college job was at Miami, where they went on 3 years probation shortly after he left. I wish that Mitch would come back. Art Briles, IMO, is the answer.
5. I also believe the only way to get Briles if it Big Time Boosters put a feeler out and then push Mitch's hand by giving the buyout money only if Briles is the next guy.
That's all...now back to gouging my eyes out watching this game.
