I like the ideal of a a destroyer down low. IDK how he'd fit Pope.
I read the article about how UCONN coach, Hurley re-built his team after last year. The guy is a prick but the article was interesting how UCONN went into the portal looking for guys who had fight in them and would fit in what he wanted. Not always the popular pick in the portal but who seemed to fit their needs at that position best.I like the ideal of a a destroyer down low. IDK how he'd fit Pope.

They took a guard from Georgia that was OK, nothing to write home about but goes to UCONN and turns into a key piece form them.
Each piece has to complement each other. We did not seem to have that this year.
But I am with you on wanting a beast in the middle.
Absolutely a dominant 4 man was the missing piece .. MoD and Jelly were both missesWhen you watch the games from the Sweet 16 onward, it is clear that among the other reasons Kentucky is not still playing is that the Cats had no massive, intimidating guy on the boards. The Big Ten teams that have moved forward especially all had a couple of those guys - or at least one.
Kentucky hasn't had anyone who scared anybody since Oscar. Sign him, if you can keep him away from Calipari.

Even a guy like Ament would have made UK probably an Elite 8 team with a chance
Agree.I'm not a fan of this unless he comes off the bench.
Demary? Nothing to write home about? He’s very good and if you recall, it was between UCONN and Kentucky for his services. Just another guy we struck out on he’s he would’ve been a big help. He’s a big physical point guard. He’s not the greatest shooter in the world but he’s a big game player man shows up in the big game down the stretch against Duke he was hitting his threes. He’s a big part of that team man. He’s a very good player we struck out on.I read the article about how UCONN coach, Hurley re-built his team after last year. If I was Demery, I'd pick Dan Hurley over Pope based off his credentials alone.I was hoping Pope would get Demery last year
To be honest, Moreno doesn't fit Pope's style of play either.Agree.
1) Cyril doesn't fit Pope's playing style (not a passer, and he is ZERO threat offensively away from the rim), not that Moreno was hitting any jumpers but his FT % indicates he may expand that ability next year
2) Cyril fouls a LOT. I think around 4.5 fouls per30min
3) Cyril's FT shooting is so bad, (improved from 45% to 58%) that team would hack-a-Shaq him late in games, so he is unplayable when you most need him
But to complement a more offensively minded starting C like Moreno, sure.
What Hurley is good at is changing and adapting. I read an article that he knew he wasn't winning at the level that he wanted and he made changes to his coaching approach and that is when he started winning. Contrary to some opinions on here, he wasn't always a winner. He was willing to make changes.I read the article about how UCONN coach, Hurley re-built his team after last year. Pope has to change his entire system. The reason I say that is because he’s an offensive coach but in the win in the SEC you have to be a strong defensive team. The league is physical. It’s tough and next year I mean Florida’s got everybody coming back so you wanna win SEC? You gotta beat Florida if you get the formula beat Florida you beat everybody but the first step beating in Florida is having guys that match up that can defend. And it’s gotta be like some 6’10” types or 6 foot eight with long arms. You know guys that can move set. Screens can hit shots. I see Arizona, Michigan, Duke, Florida UCONN they all have the same type of team big they can move and defend. If pope doesn’t know whether a guy can play defense, but puts up a lot of numbers or a guy that’s strong on defense that’s terrible shooter. You always get always have to go with the offensive player the guy with the offensive skill and then send them through defensive boot camp this summer send them all through defensive Boot Camp this summer but when you pick those guys, you gotta make sure that they can play man. It can’t be some skinny dude that can’t hold his ground but can nail threes. So Pop’s got his work cut out for him. That’s all there is to it.I'd love him but I'm not sure how he fits into Pope's system as a big.
We have ZERO playersI'm not a fan of this unless he comes off the bench.
So was Pope, but alas...I was hoping Pope would get Demery last year
Thats what I think a lot of folks miss with the 5 Star fascination. Peterson, Dybansta, Boozer, Wilson, Fleming, Acuff, Brown Jr, Ament...Gone, Gone, Gone.I read the article about how UCONN coach, Hurley re-built his team after last year. They won the SEC Tournament not the league. They basically were dealt a straight flush on their draw but they beat the teams they drew.Ehhhhh not necessarily. Arkansas won the league title and they didn't play a lick of defense. You need guys who can fill it up.
Far too aggressive for Pope. Guy is mean, I like that pope rejects that and goes for nice guys. Makes the program look fantastic that we have those types and aren’t out here winning and showing ourselves to be alpha and elite and all the things associated with being that type of program. Through his self respect, we look really good.I like the ideal of a a destroyer down low. IDK how he'd fit Pope.
Very true. Somto hasn't yet found a way to harness his inner beauty, and channel that into something very emotionally moving and meaningful, in this space. I'll pass.Far too aggressive for Pope. Didn’t Pope go to his house for a surprise, impromptu dinner and the guy choose UConn the next day?I was hoping Pope would get Demery last year
Lots of teams including UK wanted Silas Demary. Pope just whiffedI read the article about how UCONN coach, Hurley re-built his team after last year. Florida has a lot coming back but lose Hough and Lee.Pope has to change his entire system. It's actually remarkable Mike White wins as much as he does the way it seems like every offseason any player worth a lick transfers out.Georgia losing some talent. I see Jeremiah Wilkerson (G) and Dylan James (F) entered the portal as well.
Guess they got tired of playing home games inside a gloried HS gym at a football school.
Diabate was not remotely close to a miss.Absolutely a dominant 4 man was the missing piece .. MoD and Jelly were both misses
