Sophomore ball: Hins Cent 29 LA 36 Final

Exciting and rare sophomore match up taking place in Hinsdale between HC and LA as the varsity squads get ready for powerhouses St. Xavier (OH) and Phillips. I've got two horses in the race and so figured that as I watched I'd give the board an update.

HC returned the opening kickoff for a TD. Then there was some back and forth, winding up with a big run by an absolute stud RB for LA: 7-7.

HC then had a nice drive capped off with a short dive run for a TD (14-7). Then the LA RB ripped off a 60 or so yard TD run on the first play of their next possession (14-14). HC then recovered a controversial fumble (the ref seemed to think it was a backwards pass but I'm not sure) and ended the half with a TD drive but missed the PAT to put them up 20-14 at half.

Any rambler board members in the crowd in Hinsdale tonight? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Uh oh. First play of 4th LA stud RB goes down. Kid is a stud. Hope he returns.

Holy cow: 4th and 2 for HC with around 5:42 on the clock. There's a big scrum at the line of scrimmage as HC runs the ball up the middle, and somehow the HC back emerges from the scrum to take it about 55 yards for the TD. 2 pt conversion on its way, but HC takes a timeout.

HC fails on their 2pt conversion. 28-26 LA.

Edit: The stud RB is back and just had a nice run.

Edit: Next play he fumbles! HC recovers! 3:37 left.

Edit: Oh my lordy. 3rd and 5 from HC 45. QB rolls out and is under heavy pressure, evades a sack and tosses a bomb to a WR down field for the completion. HC ball on the 10 yard line with 2:30 left, still LA 28 HC 26. What a game!

Ha-ha!!! First play of next drive, LA QB under heavy pressure, scrambles, bombs one down field...CB for HC barely misses a pick, LA WR makes the catch and turns to take it all the way! I know it's only a soph game and I might be an *** for hogging the top of the board for it, but man this is what I live for in the fall.

LA converts 2 pt conversion. Happy new year.

That's the final. There was more drama than I can account for here. It was an incredible game and the two teams were evenly matched. Hope my bookkeeping was acceptable as this is opening night and I understand that a soph game doesn't necessarily deserve to be at the head of the board.
