Not as bad as the covid team, BCG's last team, or the 2013 team but it's bad for sure.
Yeah, I know a lot of the BBN is not happy with the 4 losses, but when fully healthy, this team dog walks the 2 teams you mentioned.

Really, the biggest issue is the pg spot. We have 1 pg and he could go down at any point, that's bad, but when he's in, we are a top 15 team.

Aberdeen is trying his best, but he's not a pg. Pope screwed up when he didn't find a way to get a true backup pg.

And now that Quaintance is on the court, this could be a really good team.

Because the standards are not going to be lowered here. a down year “here and there” is acceptable. We are on

1. Longest final four drought in history
2. 13 years without a title
3. No elite 8 since 2017
4. Couldn’t tell you the last time we won the SEC

IF we sit back and accept that, then we’re Indiana. And we are slowly turning into that. Glad to win I’m always glad to try and stop the bleeding but I’m not accepting this as Kentucky standards. Enjoy the win and also realize this isn’t Kentucky standards. I don’t see what’s hard about this.
No one is saying that's Kentucky standard but it's not gonna turn around instantly from this point on it take steps. The last two games were good steps.

I like how the he/she/it
just ignored the premise of the original post and moved the goalposts to some other hill to die on. I’m amazed how some people don’t know when to quit. Oh well someone new to ignore.
It’s the worst I can remember and I go back to 1992 at 7 years old. Definitely the worst team I can remember. Add their numbers from the 5 games we’ve played against good competition. It’s staggering. And some of that is Pope, the guy can’t coach at this level.

No there are many just like that. Look around, they’re acting like we have literally won a championship lol.

If you say hey, glad to stop the bleeding and JQ might change this, maybe we can actually turn into something and make a final four run this year? But also we’ve got a long way to go to be Kentucky - in context, we’re nowhere near where we should be? But damn stop the bleeding? I’m on board with that.

Mitch wants us to lose our minds over a win like this. He does the same thing, notice we finished 3-9 in football and he was going nuts on the field celebrating beating a coach less Auburn team.

So my thing is just, win, dominate, banners. This is Kentucky. Being down here and there is understandable. Not to the level we have been though. So with JMI and our recruiting trouble, we are not in a good spot. The same guys were told the same thing about Calipari and didn’t listen. Now they’re all doing it again. Just support the program by holding it to a standard. Don’t slip into an Indiana mindset which is what we’re seeing here. It’s been so long since we’ve been a winning program I really think some of these guys are okay with just making tournaments. This is Kentucky.

Do you stand by this?
That was and is my sentiment at the half. That team stunk up the place. So you were happy with the first half, in which they simply sucked? Am I happy with the result ... hell yes. JQ was the difference and JL returning was a boost. IMO, with the exception of JQ, every player on this team, at this point, is marginal.

I can sympathize with the OP. I have the same type feelings in the moment. I've learned over time to temper my emotions in both directions because sports has been known to make me look like an idiot.

Big East basketball isn’t mid-major. UConn. Nova. St John’s made a run just last year.

Eh, it’s definitely a different league from what we’d consider a traditional mid major. But they’re not a power league. Maybe there’s another name for it, we’re in a weird spot these days. It’s about to be the power 2. Outside of that? I don’t know what we’d call the BIg East. But St. John’s isn’t mid in terms of Western, but they’re not major in terms of SEC.

Big East really isn’t that great of a conference. It’s okay, it’s good at the top with a few teams.

Oh St. John’s is definitely a mid program. All day. They’re a little better than usual given Pitino and they’re not mid as in, say, morehead. But St. John’s isn’t what I’d call close to a power program. Not at all, no way.

I agree with what you’re saying. It’s not fine but good to see tending up at least for now in this season. All I’m telling the calboy pumpers is we are not near our standard. They did the same stuff when Calipari would win a game lol. Go 0-9 against ranked teams, beat number 22, then do this same crap.
St Jon’s is top 10 in wins in men’s cbb all time they are not a mid major

That’s the point moron, lol. Kentucky can’t afford more losses. lol.

Congratulations on your national championship. Maybe we can beat our next mid major and you get back to back. They’ll really show me.

I guess I’d say they’re in a space between mid and power. Just couldn’t possibly call them a power program. And they’ve been terrible for a very long time. Even when they were winning it wasn’t to elite standards.

He/she/it makes a statement, then when it doesn’t work out, they/them/it changes the argument to something that they/them/it can ride a little longer.

Sorry about their loss today.

Fully healthy they absolutely beat 21. I would say they beat 23 more often than not. Wouldn’t guarantee anything. I mean, I would guarantee that this team at least could beat every team since 2018.
tbf, the 21 team was a little better than their record. Bad enough that Cal shouldn’t have been brought back after that, but i think they finished top 50 in kenpom. They lost a bunch of close games against a really rough schedule. If they had the benefit of the cupcake games they probably finish closer to .500.

Yeah i’m not really defending them. I just haven’t seen enough from this team yet to guarantee a win against any power 4/5 team.
Yeah guarantee is probably always stretch. Even that 13-19 team in 1989 had their moments.

St. john’s is comparable to tennessee historically i’d say. Probably a little better because they actually have a runner up and more all time wins.

I’m fine with not calling tennessee a power program. :)

I think Tennessee is the best worst program of all time. No excuse in them not at least having one final four. Poverty program full of degenerate scumbags. I’ll never let them get past selling their daughters for recruits. They’re on level with Kansas.

St. Johns is always the program I root for in the BigEast. Just a neat program and love their historical position in college college basketball. As far as power, definitely not a power program. I guess I wouldn’t say mid major if I could go back, but they’re in a gray area. Mid power? Probably more accurate. But to call them a power program isn’t even technically accurate. We don’t say it yet but there’s only 2 power conferences now. Then the rest of the former power 5 are what I guess I’d call mid powers, then mid majors, then low mids.

Congratulations on your national championship? I’ll wait until Kentucky is at Kentucky standards. Beating St. johns at Kentucky shouldn’t really be a thing. Not like the 4 or 5 if you keep pushing. I get the situation but again, this should be thought of as a win that’s guaranteed here and we don’t think twice about it. But your standards? Congratulations on your national championship. But I think you’ve gotten lost on the way to Bloomington my man. They celebrate games like that and put it on popcorn boxes.

It’s really amazing to see that after all this time there are still people who cannot resist the temptation to post halfway through the game.
Tbf, our last two first halves have been head slam worthy. I'm glad the last 2 2nd halves have been much better.

We've got to stop doing the get down by 10 crap.

When Ky played Rick Majerus and Utah in the tournament one year, they were up on us at half time, and the phone started ringing, I told them, there are two halves to a game, and I called them all back after it was over 😂

But the trolls are to fkn stupid to wait 🤣

If you dont give a damn then why say anything. This game brings a lot of joy for a lot of people and it's the first game we've played with our whole team. I don't know how the years is gonna turn out I mean low as an entry away and we do only have one point guard which should've never happened and I'll always worry about JQs knee but this thing showed effort, grit and determination and also they are becoming one of the best defensive teams in the country. The bad offense covered a lot of that up, but this team is starting to turn it around and that is something to celebrate..
Great post. I agree need a backup PG. But in today's environment that is not as easy as it sounds. Lowe was brought in to start. Any player good enough to make a difference one that has any aspirations of play professional in the US or abroad. Simply doesn't wanna go to any school to be a backup.
Someone like Kerr they could have over payed and maybe kept. But he is not a difference maker.
Lowe is definitely a difference maker. It just sucks that he will not be fully healthy and will likely miss games going forward.

I remember that game. Gotta cut people some slack- tourney games are 10x worse when you are losing like that. Especially when it's the title game. lol

Poor Rick Majerus. We played him in the tourney THREE straight years. And 4 times in FIVE seasons

That man deserves to haunt the hell out of the NCAA for that.
