Agreed. Pope needs to stop messing around and play his best players from the tip. He keeps rolling with DA at the point and every time, we find ourselves at the 16 minute mark with 4 total points. Just stop the bs, if Lowe is gtg, play him from the beginning.
Lowe was out after 15 seconds and Jq was just getting his bearing

celebrating a single victory in the faces of Uk fans that were simply frustrated we weren’t playing well(to put it nicely). Thats IU popcorn box levels of pathetic tbh.

Fans like that are how IU became what they are now. Sadly we probably have enough of those types that UK basketball is doomed to experience the same fate.
The guy you’re talking to said “Pope knows it’s over” after a November loss. 😆

I'm not griping as much about it today because did tighten it up, but the man has a bad Cal-like habit of yanking dudes when they get going. It's a bit frustrating.
I think he's changed as approach or the last several games and he has his team motivated to play hard. Both of the first half of Indiana and this game were poor offensive gangs, but the defense was tight and they were fighting hard. Honestly, the biggest concern I had the first half was the horrible Unforced turnovers.

Yeah, I get that, I'm not talking about JQ and Lowe's injury is besides the point. Lowe was good to go at tip off, he's our best pg, what is the point of not starting him?

Every game, he starts DA and we struggle to get anything. Usually we are sitting at 4 points at the 16 minute mark.

If Lowe is good to go, freaking start him, we need to stop getting down by 10+ points every game, start the best players.

Games are 40 minutes for a reason.
Yeah, this is true. I've made a half-time post this season- one of my first ever, and it actually turned out to be very accurate. It was at the half of the Gonzaga game, which went from bad to worse. And we were missing several key players in that one who would have made a significant difference. And we can all see that now.

However, as a rule, it is usually a mistake to make a halftime post, especially one that takes a very pessimistic view of the team and makes final predictions and judgments about a game, and, in this case, an entire season.

I'll admit, back when Gonzaga was destroying UK, I was struggling to see how Jaland Lowe, Mo Dioubate, and Jayden Quaintance could possibly make that big a difference. Without those 3, the team looked helpless. But looking back now and having seen the importance of those players, I've changed my mind. Those 3 are all starters for a reason. Quaintance might be the most talented guy on the roster. Lowe is by far the best point guard on the team and the offense is night and day better with him on the floor. And Dioubate is the strongest, toughest, rebounder I've seen since Tshiebwe. So, it's not a stretch to say those 3 guys completely change the outcome and the ceiling of this team.

Congratulations on your national championship? I’ll wait until Kentucky is at Kentucky standards. Beating St. johns at Kentucky shouldn’t really be a thing. Not like the 4 or 5 if you keep pushing. I get the situation but again, this should be thought of as a win that’s guaranteed here and we don’t think twice about it. But your standards? Congratulations on your national championship. But I think you’ve gotten lost on the way to Bloomington my man. They celebrate games like that and put it on popcorn boxes.

But your wrong, beating St Johns with Rick Pitino coaching, is a damn big thing to real Kentucky fans 😁. And a game closer to Kentucky being who we want them to be. One game at a time.

No there are many just like that. Look around, they’re acting like we have literally won a championship lol.

If you say hey, glad to stop the bleeding and JQ might change this, maybe we can actually turn into something and make a final four run this year? But also we’ve got a long way to go to be Kentucky - in context, we’re nowhere near where we should be? But damn stop the bleeding? I’m on board with that.

Mitch wants us to lose our minds over a win like this. He does the same thing, notice we finished 3-9 in football and he was going nuts on the field celebrating beating a coach less Auburn team.

So my thing is just, win, dominate, banners. This is Kentucky. Being down here and there is understandable. Not to the level we have been though. So with JMI and our recruiting trouble, we are not in a good spot. The same guys were told the same thing about Calipari and didn’t listen. Now they’re all doing it again. Just support the program by holding it to a standard. Don’t slip into an Indiana mindset which is what we’re seeing here. It’s been so long since we’ve been a winning program I really think some of these guys are okay with just making tournaments. This is Kentucky.

I saw a pic of Mitch and pope celebrating in the locker room like they won the title. It’s disgusting. I get it with the team but the AD should no where near them. He’s the reason we have a team celebrating like they won the title after beating a bad st Jon’s team in December. We should be all business. Seeing those midseason pics well it confirms what I believe our expectations are no longer blue blood level. No longer Kentucky standard.

What didn’t John’s make a run to? Sweet sixteen? A run is final four in my book
So you've made two nonsensical posts in a row (probably more if I went back further).
"UK beat a bad St. John's team." St. John's is # 20 in kenpom. That's not a "bad team." They're a good solid team. The
"A run is a final four in my book." Oh, the big macho fan puffs out his chest and declares anyone who doesn't make the final four a failure. Oohh....tough guy! Hilarious. Every year 361/365 D1 teams are not worthy of Mr. Big Shot's discriminating standards!
Thanks for the comic relief.

Relax dude. What do you say “tough guy” annd attack me. The standard at UK are final fours. You say my post is nonsensical you should read your own stuff there: final fours are the standard for making a run at Kentucky. That’s what people are concerned about. Pope does well enough to win a game or two in the tourney. Winning a game or two by now should be unacceptable. It should be final fours. Rex knew what it was in the 80s and nothing has changed. It’s the same program that got massive probation near death penalty and we landed a rising nba star coach. It was ffs. Tubby was run out bc he didn’t make final fours outside of with ricks team. Bcg fired bc the standard are ffs. Cal hired and run out because the standards are final fours. Now with mark pope folks want to change it? Barney banked on this kind of fan to keep pope around longterm win or lose. And you low expectations because pope has a bigger uk fan than anyone!

If you think this is the worst UK you’ve seen, then you must be about 6 years old.
I guess you were loving the quality of play in that first half (look at the time stamp) which the post was referencing, and yes it sucked and was a carbon copy of the crap play we've seen all year. The second half turn-around was not expected but I was very happy to see. I don't really understand puds like you that are always looking to stir sh*t because you bring f**king nothing of value to the conversation. Guys like you is why the term "lowest common denominator" has meaning.

Don’t be a dick. Second half turn around ”wasn’t expected”? Didn‘t the same thing happen in the game before against Indiana?

And even if they had sucked and lost to St John’s, it still isn’t the worst UK team by any stretch of the imagination.

The fact our long standing rule about what's said in game threads stays in game threads is breaking down is part of the problem. Every poster on this board, including myself, has said something emotionally charged or stupid during a game. That's part of it. And we used to have a gentlemen's agreement here to not hold people to that like Gospel, unless it was REALLY dumb (like "Maybe we should hire BCG back").

Bandwagon fans only show up during good times and are nowhere to be seen when we're struggling. A good chunk of us are PASSIONATE UK Basketball fans that get involved in the emotion of our team and will rightfully say when we're sucking or praise when we do well. And want us to continue to be the best program in CBB history. That's part of being a fan.

Cultism has ruined too much crap in this country.

Every poster here without an ax to grind knows the game thead is its own animal. Place to vent. The only ones violating that are the Pope worshipers.

Chattanoogawildcat used to use the little laugh emoji too when fans would criticize Calipari in his last four years here. Dude is the epitome of a coach cultist. He views the coaching staff as something of a royal protected class and the equivalent of the program's fuller identity, when in fact the coach is merely a steward of making sure that our program standards are maintained and protected at all costs.
He is the only one I have on ignore. He has the emotional IQ of a teenager.

What a mishmash of incoherent thoughts. We have 17 final fours in the last 85 years. 4 in the last 25. It's not something that routinely happens. You're ready to ditch a guy after one year (sweet 16) and less than a half year with key players out with injuries. That's utterly absurd.

Way too early to tell if Mark is going to be successful here. Here’s still learning. Good sign is he’s willing to adjust.

He‘s extremely intelligent, and willing and able to grow into the job. He’ll figure it out.

Just be patient.

St Jon’s is top 10 in wins in men’s cbb all time they are not a mid major
St. John’s hasn’t been “st John’s” in over 30 years. They’ve had a couple decent years here and there but they’re on the same level as a Butler, Xavier or Creighton now.

You're the dick and the LCD. Maybe I've seen enough good basketball over the years to know what bad basketball looks like. The world is full of dicks like you that have nothing worth offering. Its guys like you that will eventually lay waste to Rafters in no time and left talking to yourself. Smart *** with a sharp tongue ... to what end? WHAT? You're a weak sister that can only run your mouth and the very reason we all have an IGNORE feature *******. Merry Christmas and GBB.

I think we will be just fine. We just have to continue to improve and guys have to carve out and accept their role on this team. We do that? We will be a solid team by March. Still a lot of questions but I like what I’m seeing the last two games.

It’s the worst I can remember and I go back to 1992 at 7 years old. Definitely the worst team I can remember. Add their numbers from the 5 games we’ve played against good competition. It’s staggering. And some of that is Pope, the guy can’t coach at this level.
Morg bro please be honest here, you don’t remember **** from when you’re 7 years old lol. Although I do bet you had some hot takes when you were in first grade lol

I can sympathize with the OP. I have the same type feelings in the moment. I've learned over time to temper my emotions in both directions because sports has been known to make me look like an idiot.
In other words your brain matured at a normal rate and you learned to control your emotions like a normal adult human after age 13 or so.

That only sounds dismissive. Majerus knows basketball cost him a marriage, kids. More than once he investigated adopting a child alone and allowed himself to be talked out of it. But the boys he never had and raised are never far from his mind. The boosters saw that in the bar back in October, when, apropos of nothing, he dropped into a public reverie, his voice gone mournful and soft. “I wish I could’ve had a kid like Dwayne Polk or Luke Meyer,” he said of two of his seniors. “I don’t have any regrets other than that. I look at Luke and think, Boy, his parents must feel so special to have that kind of a kid.”
Ok that is pretty sad
