You want to pay osobor 2 million dollars? Mahaney and brea are very similar players and Kentucky got one so it’s not a miss if they got somebody. The ones categorizing guys as misses aren’t thinking about the broader picture.
Dude, Mahaney is more on the lines of a PG/Combo and Brea is a catch-and-shoot 6'6" wing. They are NOT similar!

Gotta be objective for a sec. This team is closer to the NIT than a tournament bid. I hate to see everyone setting themselves up for disappointment. My hope is that this squad will mirror South Carolina last year. Similar situation going in. Similar roster make up
I just love it when the brainiacs on here project a team nobody has ever seen play is an NCAA team or an NIT team. You have absolutely no way of even guessing how this team will preform, none, zero. I will be SO glad when the brain fog of Cal NBA sudstation for STARS, wears off on our fan base.

I’m just glad Cal is gone.

If he was still here we would be debating which of the 8 guys we have would be joining Wagner in the starting five this season and cussing about Cal not even signing enough guys to scrimmage 5 v 5.

Be thankful for what we have and quit focusing on what we missed out on.

Davis
Osobor
Mahaney
Lanier
Robinson

Calling the first two misses is like saying I'm missing on all the 20k Vegas call girls because I'm not reaching for the American Express card.

A guy going pro is also reaching for sour grapes to me.

Lanier is a strike out but I give credit for getting in the mix from way outside too, he had to make the effort.

Mahaney, I don't think got beyond the "call me" stage but chalk it however you want but I'm not getting into my feelings about the kid signing for the back to back champs.

Pope is not some household name and came from way behind on any relationships with many of these guys and is going to have to build those bridges and polish his brand, I don't know what else could reasonably be anticipated when he was hired.

I think he has assembled a good team in little time, of course there is a desire or even need to find a guy that can score and create out of structure but otherwise I don't get the lack of appreciation for the pieces we do have and calling them a bunch of sophomore Allen Edwards is pure salt.

I'm thrilled Cal is gone but that doesn't mean UK fans shouldn't have expectations for the new coach.

The group you are talking about aren’t gonna do that

Based on the current roaster make up the biggest miss is Osobor because we need a strong and athletic 4. We also still need a 3 that can create his own shot.
Options are getting slimmer from nba draft unless we can pull someone from overseas,

I meant to say junior-level Allen Edwards, and I think that's fairly accurate, actually.

Popes offense doesn’t need a guy who can create, the offense and the system create the looks. It’s nice to have a guy who can create and I want a wing who can score but the offense doesn’t necessarily need it. Osobor would have been nice but that price tag ridiculous

He could have used a guy who can create against Duquesne. Just saying....

We whiffed on Liam McNeeley, too.

Again, Pope had never recruited McNeely. He just tried to once he got to UK. Uconn is coming off of back to back titles and had been on him forever. What do you mean, Whiffed? Did you actually expect to land him? It was just a long shot it wasn’t a very serious attempt lol.

Pope has done a pretty okay job to this point. I think it shows a lot that he even made a push for McNeely, a lot of coaches wouldn’t have even wasted their time. It’s not a whiff, it’s a never was.

Pope has to perform to this job that’s for sure, but a few of you are expecting way too much too soon. It shows a severe lack of understanding when it comes to this system. If I would say he really should have closed the door on one, it would only be Davis. He lost him to Arkansas bench but then again it’s Calipari and he’s a top 3 recruiter of all time. It makes sense. I’m not even concerned with recruiting right now, I’m concerned with having a good bridge year because most coaches would have a losing record coming in after Calipari the way he left it.

Did you watch the game? They got good looks the whole game they just missed them. It’s a bad loss, and pope shouldn t have lost that game. But BYU got good looks for most of that game, I have watched it 3 times since it happened to watch Robinson.

It was a brutal game to watch and it was shocking when somebody made a jump shot. Besides that, the offense got guys open looks pretty consistently.

The handwringing for 41% FG and 30 % 3pt FG against power teams is crazy people. Like to have him for potential but he’s not a savior

Yeah, it's not like we don't have all sorts of guys clamoring to come here, right? Who needs a borderline NBA talent?
Borderline because he shot so bad against that competition. I’m not feeding your troll. I love the team we already have.
