Wow, makes you wonder what should happen to people who illegally changed election laws, people who knowingly suppressed info that ties Biden to his son’s criminal actions, people who knowingly pressed lies about Russia for years on end.
Hopefully, Bank Cat would agree that punishment should flow in that direction, as well.

Huh? When did I say criminals shouldn’t be punished? The Jan 6th crowd are being punished more extreme than the constitution allows and without due process. The left wing nuts who burned and murdered are for the most part not being punished at all. So you’re far left because???

Also doesn’t change my point the LEFT LOVES Jan 6th, as it gives them an excuse to do any evil thing they please.
Explain how due process is not afforded those who broke the law on Jan 6.

People held in solitary confinement for months without seeing the inside of a courtroom? For any other domestic criminal outside of Jan 6th, that treatment would never be tolerated.

If you truly don’t know about this, you need to do some research away from the msm. Even Fox News won’t report out of fear of being seen as a Jan 6 sympathizer

I am a moderate. However, I feel like I'm far left even though I haven't moved. The far right has skewed waaaaay off their flat earth and makes me feel more liberal than I am. LOL

Anyone who burned cities, rioted or looted in the protests should be standing in court. Anyone who stormed the capitol, assaulted police, built a gallows or destroyed govt property should be standing in court. And if they planned this with forethought and sought to stop the transfer of power...well, their punishment should be severe. More than looting a Target.
Um, police were assaulted on Jan 6?

Oh yeah? So, what is your source if no one will report out of fear? Because each person has had due process and representation in the federal system.

I can count on zero hands how many times I’ve given a **** if the national anthem was played at a sporting event and what posture position others took while it was playing.
I've heard it absolutely butchered both vocally and instrumentally to a point where people were laughing. The band of my old high school back in VA once did a rendition of it that would have had the Mayberry town band giving them a WTF? look. I always stand for it if I'm at a game, but I'm indifferent to it being played at sporting events. Is it played before tennis matches or golf tournaments? I don't watch those sports, so I really don't know. It's not been played at several high school baseball games I've been to over the years, but at some it has. I suppose it depended on the facility. I don't recall it being played at some AAU basketball events I've been to, except maybe for the opening ceremony. It's not played before I watch a movie in a theater. It's never been played at any concert I've attended. I participated in a 5K once, and it wasn't played.

Speaking of standing for it, does anyone stand for it at home? My dad was a WWII era Marine and our neighbor was a Korean War vet. When I was a kid, our neighbor would sometimes come over for a big NFL game because our antenna was up higher on the hillside and got a little better reception than his did. I never recall him or my dad standing for the anthem, and you'd be hard pressed to find two more patriotic guys than they were.

I remember when Tommie Smith and John Carlos protested on the medal stand in Mexico City. It pissed my dad off, but he also told me that was one of the great things about being an American in that you could protest and not be thrown in prison or executed. We kept on watching the Olympics and he didn't dwell on it.

Speaking of instrumental renditions of it, love this one by Chris Duarte...

And this one where he has to start over after politely telling someone they need to STFU while he is playing....

I hated and still hate January 6. I am afraid it has opened a Pandora's Box. The rioting and killing that happened during that previous summer were horrendous. That said, there have been violent riots in the US since inception. Draft riots, worker riots, race riots, student protests that became violent...but it never spilled inside the US Capitol. On Jan 6, we came perilously close to something I don't even want to imagine. That can never be normalized or justified, regardless of which party was doing it. I think all Americans should want to know the full, unvarnished truth about whether or not any elected or appointed officials in any of the three branches of govt were active in its planning.

As I said, I'm not far left. I want less govt, not more. I support the military. I support honest cops. Freedom to worship whoever your invisible guy in the sky is - or to not worship. I don't have a womb so if you are pro-life, don't get one. I think AOC and Boebert/MTG are different forms of unqualified idiots. I believe Pizzagate and Qanon are utter horseshit. I don't care if people identify as a different gender than they were born as - and I would freak the hell out and have a serious crisis of conscience if one of my kids did it. But I know I'd still love them.

I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't think criminals need to be punished. Peace!

This is pretty much me. I’d be labeled a radical conservative in California and a radical leftist in Kentucky. I don’t have a problem with LGBT folks, nor do I have problem with the Second Amendment.

I condemn all forms of rioting. While I understand the anger behind rioting, I’ll never understand destroying something that doesn’t belong to you or assaulting another person. Those who participated in the 2020 riots and Jan. 6 should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Neither one is a valid whataboutism. Both were bad. One doesn’t excuse the other.

If elected officials in either party were involved with the planning, organization and/or execution of the events of Jan. 6, they should be removed from office, barred for life from holding public office and prosecuted. Most reasonable people would agree.

The stuff at the capitol was pretty unAmerican and shouldn’t be minimized. I would say the same thing if in 2016 Hillary supporters in pink hats attempted to storm the capitol in hopes of disrupting/stopping the certification of Trump’s election to the point they breached barricades, stole public property and rubbed **** on the walls. Peaceful transition of power - no matter how one views the incoming administration - is one of the things that separates the USA from the third world.

Both sides sit in a loud echo chamber and view everyone on the other side as some sort of evil cartoon villain, when in reality most of the **** each echo chamber feeds their captive audience is either not true or half true at best. Politics has gotten so cult like it’s scary. It wasn’t like this 30 years ago. Neither side is fully the good guy or fully the bad guy. Neither is innocent in the polarization. Both of them lie and distort the truth. Both speak in absolutes. Us vs them.

I’d rather go back to the days where people didn’t talk about politics openly. You used to not know how your neighbors voted.

As mentioned above, that was bad too. I notice a lot of people leaving in cuffs in the fourth picture, as they should’ve.

Why the whataboutism? Is admitting, “my side is capable of doing bad stuff too” really that hard?

Idiots will be idiots. But let's not act like Jan 6th wasnt sensationalized as the near end of democracy, when other things (Trump inauguration, Capital baseball shooting, Kavanaugh Capitol hill protests, 2020 summer of mostly peaceful protests) were basically accepted and normalized.

There was no disgust for peaceful transition of power. No disgust of the capitol being protested for Kavanaugh and the end of democracy as we know it...at the time.

Similar to this anthem deal. Kaepernick and even 2020 - they were kneeling for racial injustice and change. There's been change at the top of every level since then...and now continue to kneel, for historical justice, I suppose. And history cannot be changed, therefore, kneeling forever. Their right - but let's again not act like it can be fixed for a cause.

What side of rioting and destruction are you calling your “side?” No one who has burned, killed, looted, destroyed, invaded, and attacked when motivated by the fervor of a riot is on my side.

Yeah, on January 6, I broke from my work, turned on the TV, saw what was happening and was really disappointed in people and disgusted by the idiots who invaded the Capitol. I watched about five minutes and went back to work wondering where the hell we were headed after so much rioting and ugly behavior. But, I never once saw the psycho goofballs in the Rotunda and thought for a minute our government was at risk of toppling. I don’t think the goofs involved thought that, either. I feel sorry for anyone who did.

Fine with it. I'd rather they be in the locker room than on the court kneeling or turning their back, taking away from the people who do want to show respect for our flag, our national anthem, and our country.

Shocking stuff. Woke college students protesting their own freedom. What else is new?
I remember growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, bitter old white people complaining about the woke college students at the time. Fast forward 50 years and those woke college students are now bitter old white people complaining about the current younger generation. It’s an endless cycle that goes back many generations.

Brings to mind the guy at Commonwealth Stadium who plays the Jimi Hendrix style National Anthem before about one UK game a year, I think it is awesome, as do half the fans around me, and of course the other half hate it.

Who is that guy anyway, and what is his connection to UK?

I am not “the right.” I know that stereotypes run high on this board and people love to generalize, but your desire to fall into that lazy approach is indicative of you, not me.

No but you do fall into the category of a supporter which is evident based on your posts. You realize the right and a Trump supporter can be two different things. I made that distinction for a reason. Your lack of reading comprehension is indicative of you, not me. And you are still cute when you are being a hypocrite.

Another lazy post to rely upon message board cliches about reading comprehension. When did I say “Trump supporter?”

Come on, have more respect for yourself and your political position than to succumb to such cheesy comments.

I also happen to know what the word “hypocrite” means and one cannot be such because TCurtis knows people from “the right” who constantly referenced Obama when Trump was president. 😂

You didn’t say Trump supporter. I did. In one sentence, I referred to the right. In the next sentence, I said Trump and his supporters. I did that for a specific reason. A Trump supporter doesn’t have to be someone on the right. Let’s put this discussion to rest with a single question. You got on Ed for bringing up Trump now that Trump is no longer is power. Did you have an issue with Trump and his supporters (your history here indicates you fall into this supporter category) constantly brought up Obama during his entire time in office? Was it ok for pro-Trump people to do that? Let’s see your answer to that question.
