A team that went 0-10 last year is 7-0 now. Whats the scoop with this team. They seem to be doing good.

From The Lexington Dispatch:

SOUTH DAVIDSON 34, SOUTH STOKES 6
Make it seven in a row - and give them a new record to boot. The Wildcats rolled to an easy 1-A/2-A Greater Triad Conference victory over the Sauras in Walnut Cove. With the victory, South improved to 2-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall, setting a new program record for wins in a season.

"It's just all about these kids," said South coach David House. "The staff has been tremendous. These kids keep playing hard and we're getting better. They just believe in themselves so much, they are practicing hard and studying film. I'm grateful for the opportunity to lead this team."
The Wildcats got a defensive touchdown on the first series as Jacob Hill intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a score. It was Hill's sixth interception of the season. South controlled things the rest of the way as Dalin Johnson, Myles Scercy, Gage Underwood and Duke Howell each had rushing TDs. In addition to Hill, Howell, Underwood and Scercy also had interceptions. South Stokes dipped to 2-5 while South Davidson welcomes North Stokes next Friday for its final home game of the season. The Wildcats last two games are at Chatham Central and at Bishop McGuinness.

Also, on the 3A board our longtime Thomasville poster mentions the coaches are from Thomasville, maybe he will see this and confirm. I not sure if all or just several.

The head coach and three assistants were at Thomasville. Some for several years. And three of those were excellent wrestling coaches for the Bulldogs, including two head coaches who served for quite a few years. Of course, the House name is also fabled in our area for wrestling.
At least three of those could have been top notch football head coaches at Thomasville if not for the debacle that ensued with the tenure of the elected school board. And the departure of eleven coaches from Thomasville athletics.

While it is an amazing turn around, their schedule may be one of the easiest in the state. They haven't played anyone with a pulse yet. The best team they have played is South Stokes (according to records) and they have only won two games against Surry Central, who is terrible and College Prep & Leadership Academy, who is also just as bad. Their OWP is 0.16327. Half of those teams only have a win because they played each other.

All 4 1a undefeated teams have played extremely soft schedules.
S.Davidson and Bear Grass SOS per max preps is minus 45 or more
Kipp and Pinetown is minus 35 or so.
Wilson is minus 3 and Rville minus 5.

Coach Herman led Thomasville Wrestling to a state title 2A in 2014.

They have Gage Underwood at quarterback is a legit Athlete he is electric in the open field. They have a running back in George Nelson it is also a very good. Duke Howell who plays some out of the backfield and it receiver is a super athlete. He has 15 touchdowns on the season. Jacob Hill their free safety has six interceptions and is another really good athlete. They've only allowed four touchdowns on the season. Only one with the starting defense in. The coaching staff has done a super job. Offense and defensive coordinators are from Thomasville. Coach House the head coach is the head coach of the wrestling program which is very successful as well.

While their schedule hasn't been the toughest. They did play three 3A teams in the non-conference. Those teams haven't turned out to be all that good. They have won every game handily except for East Davidson which they had quite a few touchdowns called back. And some turnovers in the red zone. The last game of the season they will play 2A Bishop McGinnis who only has one loss. Also they're JV team has been really successful this year only losing one game. Most of their games have been against bigger schools due to the fact that a lot of the teams in the conference don't have JV

South Davidson has played one of the weakest schedules in North Carolina. Five teams in the Smoky mountain conference would be undefeated playing that schedule. I do think S.D. will be playing in the Western finals though but I don't think it will be close.

I don’t think anyone is comparing South to Smoky teams, and everyone acknowledges that the schedule is weak. But their unprecedented success so far is mostly about good coaching giving kids confidence instead of being laughed at. The community, and mostly the kids, deserve that.
As a Thomasville fan, I’m thrilled for them and happy to see those coaches having success after the crap they had to endure at the end of their Thomasville careers.

Very well said OC! Play your schedule and the playoffs will sort it out.

Scheduling and conference alighnment, You get what you get from the NCHSAA in conference. Bottomline is they still scheduled and beat local 3A rivals they had never beaten. The defense is really tough and well coached. The offense is clicking behind a solid OL and those athletes listed above with some good coaches. When you average close to 300 yards or better a game rushing the ball you will win games regardless of scheduling. The 16 man JV team has 13 9th graders and beat much bigger schools all season. 1A is proving out to be what the NCHSAA wanted and that is more fair and balanced football. SD as an example is no longer having to play Salisbury, Lexington, Thomasville, N Rowan and others that were on their schedule for many years and led to many losses. As for what happens come playoff time and what rounds, that is TBD. Every win is confidence and a new record for those Cats. Huge game coming up in two weeks at Bishop for the conference crown. Whether they go 9-1 or 10-0 in the regular season, they will still be the #2 seed in the west and have a well deserved spot earned by hard work, good play and good coaching. I am quite sure the Wildcat faithful hope to make it to the regional finals to play whomever they play. That would be awesome!

Get the morter ready. This team is getting better each week. Coach house has done a great job in assembling a great coaching staff from Thomasville to merge with good coaches he already had plus he lets them coach.
Yes sir. Coaching matters. The Kids confidence keeps growing. They also have some pretty darn good athletes. Proud of these kids. Thankful for the coaches
