One of the frequent criticisms of Dawson was his alleged penchant for throwing too many deep balls. FWIW, actual stats do not suggest that was the case. Short of actually tracking every pass thrown in every game the best statistical indicators are Yards/Attempt and Long Balls Completed/Game. YPA is usually regarded as the best indicator of the "length" of your passing game. Year in and year out the national average hovers just over the 7.0 mark. For 2015:

6.3 YPA: #103 nationally and a full yard under the 2015 national average (7.3)
10 yard+ completions/game: 8.3 #77 nationally
20 yard+ completions/game: 3.2 #61 nationally

While I agree in theory, UK attempted deep routes quite often. But they rarely completed them.

His O was quite basic and easily defended, esp w UK having below avg OTs versus the SEC. (Or EKU's Spence, a top 10 Nfl talent)

Feast or famine, which was famine WAY too often.

usm's qb may very well be sooo much better at checking down that he doesn't wait for the rush to get there and has the ball out of his hands. towles very well could of made dawson look worse than he is... but.... once you play 3 or 4 games and you see a problem and dont address it or change... that is where the problem lies. the fact we seemed to look good on O in the first half of games only to watch teams make minor adjustments at halftime and completely shut us down causes me to believe dawson is a ways off from being a true d1 level play caller. if he uses the mistakes at UK to improve upon then he could be a solid oc. if he laughs off the problems as someone else's problem solely then i think he's probably done at d1 level after a year or 2 at usm.

usm has a puncher's chance against in this game. imo they are a solid team but we argue rankings vs record on this site often. all records aren't the same even if the win loss is the same. usm got to absolutely pound 3 horrible teams last year and a few bad ones. they had a coach that was good enough that an nfl team offered him an OC job. so, do we think that dawson is gonna do better than an nfl level oc in game 1??? i think the young talent that got exposed last year will be better this year.

good game. feel for you guys. I was cussing dawson and our whole staff at half. I thought we were much better than yall were giving us credit for, but after that first half.....I/we were melting down. so I can relate to how yall feel. couldn't be prouder of how our kids and staff (including dawson) responded.
