SP 34 Hickory 28

Out of town so watched the game on NFHS. Great game to watch with two very good teams. From my memory, there was only one punt in the game which SP punted on 4th and 2 at Hickory 38 just before halftime (still scratching my head on that one). Ultimate difference was 2 SP picks and one fumble recovered. Hickory has a massive line, really good QB, and tough running back. Rumph at QB was very good running the option and wings made good gains on the edges. Hickory focused on stopping Pless at FB, but he did a good job of turning hits at the line to 3-4 yd gains and broke for a couple of 20+ TD runs. Hickory is very good and the game could have gone any way. Great start for the Raiders against a strong foe on the road.

Very entertaining game with 2 good teams battling back and forth. Fun game to watch. I will say that injuries and cramping hampered both teams, especially Hickory. They lost starting QB and top two RB's for most of second half. South Point had many players cramping as well though. From a non-biased perspective, I would have to lay blame for the Hickory loss on the Hickory coaching staff. I think Coach Glass does a great job, but in this case, the coaches put the players in a bad situation by being stubborn. I know you are a spread team, but you allowed your backup QB to make crucial mistakes with an interception and fumble down the stretch in the 4th quarter that cost you the game. South Point had ZERO, and I mean ZERO answers to stopping the Overload Power Wildcat set. Hickory did not use it one time in the fourth quarter. Kudos to South Point for making the plays when they need them most on defense, and their offense does what it does. Overall, great first game of the season to watch.. Both teams will be heard from down the road when it really counts. Just a side note, nice little coaching staff shakeup on the South Point side that will make a difference for their offense for sure this year.

That's a fair assessment of the game action last night. Cramping is usual at the first of the season, but last night took its toll on the Red Tornadoes. Coach Glass will take the blame if you asked him, but our two top running backs were on the sideline with cramps and the 3rd RB is not the straight ahead, hit the hole runner, needed for that package.He was involved with that last fumble. HHS calls it "Jumbo"! Our back up QB is as solid as the starter. The SP DB jumped that route and made a great play, so I don't blame the throw. Both teams are apt to win a lot of games this year and go far. Maybe we can meet up agins and have another good game. Stat wise, Both teams had 22 first downs, Total yards, HHS 447, SP 446, Total lays SP 63, HHS 57.That's pretty close.
