having been a former asst. HS FB coach - I was wondering what you all think on use of personnel on ST - KO / KR?

I was always of mindset that I will use my fastest who has the best ball retention on KR - Use LB / FB and SS / DE style on outside 3 positions and upbacks on KR and Guards on inside 2 spots on KR.

On KO I like SS / DE and LB / RB/ FB to use speed and ability to tackle - and to assist my young players blended with some older guys some game-time experience. MAINTAIN LANES - easiest method INHO and win the one on ones.

I haven't paid much attention to last couple of horrid seasons of ST play- but how have they been utilizing personnel on KR / KO? 'Cause we have been really bad on field position from ST play.

Thanks for info.

If you are an upper Division 1 school I feel like 45% of your kicks should be touchbacks. Bad kicking hurt us on special teams last year. With our kicker hurt Stoops was forced to go with squib and directional kicking. Last season 16 out of 62 kicks last year were touchbacks (25.8%). In 2014 MacGinnis had 37.3 % of his kickoffs as touchbacks. This year I expect UK to put more of their kicks deeper in the end zone if Austin is healthy.
