What's the alternative? Tell him no and he goes somewhere else? I'm not sure if you all have noticed, but we need to try and keep the talent, not tough love them out of the program. If he is a malcontent, that's one thing. If he has been repeatedly warned for questionable conduct, maybe we cut him lose. But if his only crime is saying I want to play now or I'm leaving, let him play. If it keeps him here and he is as talented as everybody says he is, he's not staying 5 years here anyway.

why isn't De'Mornay Pierson and Westercamp the only 2 return people?
the first has a chance for a touchdown every return, and the second has great hands and is good for a 25 yard return every time.

The Stevenson thing irritates me quite a bit but I don't understand why DPE doesn't return kicks at all anymore. All American as a freshman and yet even in the final play of the game isn't back there returning kicks. I understand he's on limited reps while returning from injury but it's completely bizarre to me that part of those reps aren't coming from what he did best which is returning kicks.

Also for as much money as the special teams coach is getting paid, there sure have been poor results.

So if his next demand is he gets 20 carries a game or he transfers, are we going to give in to him again? Are other players now going to threaten to leave if they don't get their way? Where do you draw the line?

And if he really is that talented, why can't we find other ways to get him involved in the offense?

You take each case individually. I know you may not like that, but that's how it should be. When Jimmy Johnson was coaching the Dallas Cowboys, he told the story of canning a player who fell asleep during team meetings to get the attention of the rest of the team. When he was asked if the person sleeping would have been Michael Irvin would he have been pink slipped, and Johnson said absolutely not. Your better players, like it or not, have a little more leeway. Why was Randy Gregory not tested for marijuana last year when he should have been? The coaches knew he very well might have tested positive and they didn't want to lose him during the season. Did other players receive this same treatment? If you look at programs across the country, I would imagine you can find a host of schools who would keep him in that redshirt situation, and an equal number who would say let him play.

To answer your question, where do you draw the line? I guess if the player has the ability to help in KO returns, and he is adamant he wants to play, you let him. If he demands to get 20 carries a game and isn't ready for that, you don't cave. You show him why he isn't ready for 20 carries a game. It's that simple. Does he go Aaron Green or Braylon Heard on us? Maybe. But it's crazy to lose someone because we won't let him return kicks, especially if he can help us out.
