Just out of curiosity, how many present or past college football coaches do we have on this board?
How about a more important question how many here who even played football and was ever on the field with the exception of mop up duty?
Well, I have coached plenty of teams on my Playstation... so there is that.
I played in more games as a junior and senior in high school than many play in 3 years, which means absolutely nothing. I played football, whoopee... Some get it, some don't.
Mike Leach never played a down in college, and I have no idea if he played in high school. He received a Juris Doctorate from BYU before going and getting a Master's in Sports Science in Sports Coaching in 1988 from that juggernaut United States Sports Academy.
Matt Millen might be considered an expert for a network, yet he failed as a CEO of the Detroit Lions, being in charge for the eight worst years in franchise history. Being able to play or knowing how to play doesn't mean one can teach that skill or ability to others, nor does it mean that one can operate an organization and evaluate talent.
John Blake could play and he can coach the DL...
