looked like he was tired, bored, and not focused. He must've slept well last night. 62 today.

It's gotta be tough coming off that ...

the talk shows and everything else that comes from winning the Masters.

It has to be hard to refocus.

Yup. He took a round off. Looks like he didn't like embarrassing himself yesterday and came out on a mission. 62. 1 shot off course record.

He seems to have the demeanor, head and game to have staying power.

Re: It's gotta be tough coming off that ...

I agree. He'll be the odds on favorite to win the US Open this year held at Chambers Bay. I evaluated Chambers Bay in November and it is a pure links style course-fescue grasses including on the greens, firm fast fairways and firm greens. Tour players don't play these types of courses very much. It requires a ton of local knowledge. Speith won the US Junior Am in Washington in 2010 which is where he first used his current caddy who is a regular caddy at Chambers Bay. His caddy will be able to steer him around Chambers and Speith's low ball flight will benefit him there too. Btw, when Speith won the US Junior Am, he beat one of my patients 4&3 in the quarterfinals. The small world of competitive golf.

Do you think he missed too many fairways for the Open?

He's playing great, but he also seemed to miss quite a few fairways at Augusta. Can't do that at a US Open.

Of course, he knows that, and knows the penalty isn't great at Augusta, so he'll adjust accordingly.

I'd like to see Phil get his US Open and complete the career slam.

Hmm ... don't think I like it

Don't get me wrong. Outstanding course ... but I don't like it for a US Open. It's like we will just have 2 British Opens this year.

Re: Hmm ... don't think I like it

That's exactly what I said after I played it. I predicted that the Tour players wouldn't like it too because of that. Here's another link. Holes 1 through 9 are covered. When I played it, I played with Brent Zepp who is in these videos. Nice guy. But Chambers is an outstanding course and a very difficult test.
