Does NU have room for him? Do we want another guard? I'd say "yes" to the latter, but am not sure on the former. He is looking for a solid MA program. Earning a Masters at NU after four years at Michigan sounds like a good combination.

He retired from basketball due to hip injury
All signs point to the fact that he expects to play wherever he transfers. He will be a grad transfer.

Either way, as nice as all of these thoughts are, we simply don't have room right now.

Here is the article on him, I've changed my thoughts on Bielein

http://yhoo.it/1SnKOVw
He's abiding by the rule. The Big Ten has the absurd rule; its Beilein's choice to ask Spike to abide by it.

Frankly, the mandatory year off the court, while tradition, is absurd. (Maybe it's absurd because it's tradition.)

If the Midwest and top flight basketball is so important to Spike and his dad, he should make (and likely win) his appeal, or go play at Wichita State or UNI or Oakland (ish) or somewhere else. Or his dad can find someone else to live vicariously through.

(I hope Spike gets a waiver and plays in East Lansing. Villains are fun.)
