My Madisonville Maroons wore something similar to these in our 84 season. Maroon in color of course. Some bad MFers for sure.

What about Billy the Beef? You had to know Billy the Beef. William Bovine was his Christian name, IIRC

These bad boys changed the sneaker game. Fresh out of high school when they arrived on the scene. Had to have them.

True.

Were y'all young when people tried to make saucony's hot? People went nuts for them. I just laughed. Then NB came out with the 2 pair 574 for 80 or 100, and everybody and their mama wore those for a few years. Still one of the best shoes for your buck, imo.

New Balance with the first $100 pair of kicks. Yes, I had one pair of Saucony. Even had a damn pair of Diadora or some **** like that. Bjorn Borg wore them, so I thought, hell I have to have a pair.

These pics definitely make the shoe game bad now. Shoes are way to fugly nowadays compared to what they used to be.

Hushpuppy Oxford in Suede

Wore the **** out of these, even a middle cut version of these. Had like 5 pair.

Troops had a couple nice designs.

These where the Diadora Bjorn Borg shoes I was talking about, much better looking in blue or red.

These where actually a great shoe.

With the Velcro strap, must have.

Even rocked a black pair of these.

Don't remember what grade, but I bought a pair of the Fila -Mashburns. I thought I was ahead of the curve and would have the hottest shoes in school. Sadly they didn't catch on and I was left behind.

Cugas from the Pic & Pay.

We didn't have a lot of money growing up.
I hear ya man. Growing up if I wanted Jordan's I had to save money and go with friends to this place in Casey Co. Polly's. They sold popular shoes for dirt cheap, but it was because they had a defect. Like I had one pair that had something wrong with the Jordan stitching on one shoe. Never remember paying over 60.00 for a pair though.

My dad was a railroad worker, he went through periods of being laid off back during the 70's & 80's. My mom was a stay at home mom till me and my sisters all got to high school. I owned a few pairs of those Cugas during grade school. I graduated up to Pony's when I got to high School. I remember trying out for the freshman basketball team and the bottom of those Pony's being slicker than snot. I would come to sliding stops on the basketball floor. Quite the sight. Once my mom went to work and my dads job got more stable, I was able to move into some converse and Nike kicks, none of the special lines though, and those mostly came from Dan's Pawn Shop at 18th and Broadway in Louisville.

I had a lot of sweet kicks in the early-mid 90s because I made a deal my my folks that I'd gladly wear Kmart clothes if I could have nice sneaks. I had Jordans, Barkleys, Bo Jacksons and those Reebok preseasons. (I also went through my official UK team shoes phase from 93-97. I owned those denim Converse. Lol.)

My two favorites.:

Had these Converse Run N Slams in UK blue and white

2:

These were the GOAT for me.

Owned the top 4 shoes on that list, plus some others. Can't even name them all, but my favs included:

Jordan
3

4 (all blacks - got laughed at every day, this was before fab 5 made all black popular and also had the baby blues)

5

7

11

Air Max 90

91/180

95

97

Uptempo 95's (all black not the ugly 96 "more's" with a giant AIR on them posted above)

I've found it amusing over last several years how it seems like every shoe I owned as a kid has been re released. Not so much the Jordans as that's expected, but primarily the Air Max.

The Jordan 3 is the most generic looking POS shoe that *everyone* loves. WHY?

nostalgia
iconic
timeless
saved the nike brand
birth of jumpman
elephant print
most memorable sports ad campaign ever
first non high top
comfortable
first visible air unit
Michael's favorite jordans
first retro release shoe 1994 - unheard of then
not my style, nowadays, but they are undeniably the best looking hoops sneaker to wear casually

basically think about every basketball shoe released before the III, then after, and there's your answer in a nut shell

Makes sense. It was the intro to modern Jordan's and that's why it sucks.

And you casually wear J's, I assume.

My last J's were the 11's in 96

My last casually worn premium sneaker was purchased in 2005 or 6. I still have them and they look like new. Wore them to the optometrist within the last couple of years and the doc said, my husband had those shoes, "like 10 years ago" haha

Besides that the only sneakers have been strictly running shoes

I broke out the Pony's for Morehead State University's Basketball Camp in the Summer of 1980.

Pretty sure the first night during open court pickup games, I showed out and went for 6/1/1 in those bad boys.

sheesh

these came back last year and I should have got them. I don't think people give a **** about them, but that shoe in that color was probably second only to the Pennys for me.
