Gantos

I remember having to sit in Gantos for a solid 2 hours one time while my dad kept giving my mom dresses to try on.

Sir Pizza is still kicking in at least three places. Broadway (was Waller, the best one) Crossroads and Northside. It's an indulgence I pay for dearly on the following day.

Speaking of pizza, had my 13th birthday party at Godfathers pizza on Southland where Winchells is now. The shiznit.

I was a Turfland Mall kid with a bunch of Fayette Mall/Nicholasville Road kind of friends. Southland was the neutral ground.

Went to a birthday party in like 1977 or so in the basement of McDonalds on Nicholasville Rd. Wonder if they still use that?

Anybody else ever use the pay phones to call collect for your ride home? I'd dial mom or dad collect and when it asked for the name I'd say "comepickmeup" real fast and hang up. Never costed a dime lol

Fayette Mall/Crossroads here, although my house was down the street from G.D. Ritzy's off MOW. Bomb cheddar fries, cherry coke and double cheese burger.

Sir Pizza was the ****.

I loved Sir Pizza. Damn do i miss it.

Last visit to Lexington was 2014 on our way to Texas for our Son's graduation, spent a few days there visiting relatives and friends and took the wife to Sir Pizza for her to try. Brought back memories for me, she wasn't a fan, spoiled by the pizza here in NY.

Camped out in Crossroads Cinema a many of times, saw The Poseidon Adventure, Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry, The Exorcist. They used to have midnight showings of Christopher Lee Dracula movies, Godzilla, Gattica and such on Friday or Saturdays. Mom worked part time to help make ends meet at the grocery store at Crossroads Center, folks hung out at the little dive bar at the end of the strip facing Reynolds Rd.

Heard they shut that down, the basement not McDs. Starlight for some KFC, Ponderosa, Jerry's and Southland Lanes.

Found and went to a Ponderosa in Vermont a couple of years ago... it was horrible.

Good stuff there.

Couldn't agree more on those nice lil squares. I loved the crumbled sausage. If i were rich, I'd fly down there right now.

Christmas at my Aunt's house and skateboarding in the hood. I couldn't skateboard worth a damn and probably fell off right after this pic was taken.

House I grew up in, we had two big ol' trees on both sides of the stairway.

I hit the Sir Pizza over by Camelot East. Used to go to the one over near the BK on Clays Mill but I think that one is dead now.

I remember going to some store in the mall that did iron on designs. You picked the design and then the shirt. My grandmother got me a badass top of the line model: a two color blue sleeves, white body shirt with some weird car iron on AND had my damn name across the back. It was the little kid version of the pimp suit.

I miss...

- The arcade in Crossroads Shopping Center. The place was awesome.
- Mango's restaurant in Fayette Mall when it first expanded past Sears. Knew the kitchen manager when it first opened.
- The movie theater in Turfland Mall. For some reason, it had the best buttered popcorn in the world for a ******** theater when I lived in those apartments behind it 25 years ago.
- Dawahare's. Always had good UK gear.
- TGIFriday's in South Park. The one behind Fayette Mall just doesn't have the same atmosphere.
- Darryl's Restaurant. Of course.

Which mall had a J Riggins store? I remember buying a tie at one of those stores in the early 1990s.

South Park was over behind Crossroads? Don't think it had been open very long before I moved away. Do remember there being a Soda Shoppe there and you could get all kinds of flavored drinks that Kroger's didn't normally carry.
