. . . and she told me that STH renewal for this season is sitting at about 70%, and that there've been 310 new purchases of season tickets. Has anyone heard anything different?

Where is 70% relative to other years on Aug 1?

I'd expect this year to have many more early renewals simply because people who might otherwise delay are now having to try and find good seats in a new venue. I expect next year will have even more people "renewing" within the first week seats become available.

And once folks have established seat locations the renewal frenzy will likely return to whatever the baseline has been traditionally.

That, she didn't say. Am I wrong to be encouraged by the fact that we may be on pace to add about 500 new STH's for this season? Assuming most re-up for the following season, nearly 500 additional STH's in an approximately 7000 seat arena isn't exactly trifling. And considering that the renewal rate among current STH's for the new Welsh-Ryan will be, for all intents and purposes, 100%, I can't help but think that we're on our way to having a home court advantage the likes of which we've never seen before. How f^@#*g great is it to be a Wildcat fan right now?!?

I'd guess many people are renewing in preparation for the demand in 2018-19. As an out-of-towner who attends a few games a year, I'm prepared for the price hikes to come (and given what it cost to go to SLC, it's hard to really complain). Just hoping Rutgers and Nebraska stay under $100 a seat.

Sounds like with 5,000 ST holders renewing for 2018-19 and an additional 500 or so coming aboard, then add in 1,000 students there won't be maybe seats available single game purchasers in the re-done W-R.s nearly 7,000 seats.

Hope you're wrong, Willy. I'd really feel bad for those local fans of out-of-town visitors . . . /s ;)

Wondering how many of the new and repeat season ticket subscribers are in fact brokers.

Uber (or anyone): how serious are you/is your knowledge of this? I asked both my rep and someone in donations if any brokers would be allowed to purchase before STHs (both this season and next) and they said, "none". Maybe that's naive. Concerts and special events, Ravinia-the ticket broker and aftermarket is out of control IMO but for NU hoops, I got the feeling most use StubHub which I assume is supplied by individual fan STHs, not a professional broker.

STH's overbuying and then reselling tickets are, effectively, brokers. Same result as if a professional broker does it. Ticket reps probably aren't tuned in to this.

70% of season ticket holders may have renewed but i bet a lot of 4 tickets became 2 for this year

Certainly some. There are a couple of things that should reduce the incentive for brokers a bit. One is ticket supply will be doubled for this season, so ticket availability shouldn't be an issue. So brokers with good to decent seats may see fewer takers at AA because so many tickets will be available for single game sales, though they could do better the new WRA. Two is ticket pricing moving from one price fits all (non-Purple Seat STs were the same price regardless of seat location) to pricing tiers charging more for better seats. Brokers with great seats will probably still do well, but at least NU will get more money from them.

At the end of the day NU can only do some much about this stuff, though I strongly believe they should do more than they have. With so many alumni of visiting teams there's always going to be demand that brokers can take advantage of. The good news is the crowds last season were awesome and hopefully we can improve the share of NU fans in the new arena (not sure how this is going to go at AA) and it will be an even better home court advantage.

If you drop down to two, does it make it more difficult to get 4 the next year? If the team improves this year, season ticket demand could really go up.

Exactly. The broker problem is out of control. It's disgusting how many fans from the other schools tell me that they bought their excellent seats from brokers.

I'll admit I get a little aggravated with brokers when I try to grab Cubs tickets but not sure the issue when it comes to NU. Plenty of face value STH's and singles available through NU.

Can't really complain about brokers at NU when one of them (Gold Coast) sported banners in the old WRA......

I'm happy with my AA seats other than being in AA. I'm not worried about home field advantage in the new WR (it will be awesome). And I think/hope that fewer tickets will end up in the aftermarket now that we have a better product on the court. I'm just thinking of my interests (or anyone who is not actively selling, and wants to maintain good seats in new WR).

My main concern would be if current (this yr or last yr) STHs got bumped from the lower bowl in the new WR, assuming they willing to pay the fee, required donation, etc. I was told (bc I asked) that there were about 300 STHs currently "ahead" of me in the lower bowl and that based on purple points I was about in the "middle" of lower bowl STHs. Somehow I'd like to see the ticket office minimize brokers jumping ahead of us in the new WR.

The ticket office tries to get to know the STHs. Frankly it would be hard to avoid your rep if you attend games regularly. They obviously know who's an alum, where you live, etc. They must have some idea who's routinely brokering. I guess the general question is how do SO MANY good SEASON seats get into broker hands?
