Same situation as last year :Winning an emotional game vs MC and then get to play LA. Last year in Wilmette could've been 63-3 if LA wanted. At least this year SR is at home. Defense is going to have to come up huge to have any chance. Is LA 100% @ramblinman @Bowie50 @Gforce5 ?

The D is as ready as its going to be. It keeps improving week to week. They have a nice mix of power and speed with a top notch secondary that should be close to full strength. Overall two guys are out but have very capable replacements. It should be a fun game to watch.

Loyola is the favorite but Rita should give them a competitive game. Phillips was very lucky to get them at half strength.

When is the last time SR made it a competitive game? With Mister at QB? I don't expect SR to win, but would be nice to put up a tough fight.
Jeez... nothing but best wishes to the beast but first Alek Thomas last week and possibly Jones this week...

Yeah, if he plays, let's hope he's a little rusty as well. I gonna say Rita covers the 15.5 points and comes very close in a 28 - 20 Rambler victory.

I think Rita will surprise some people this week. Not sure if they'll win, but it will be a really good game.

Holecek isn't the kind of guy to run up the score neither in Kuska or so that's the story. But make no mistake Loyola wins. The question is next week does BR have anything to play for against SR.

I think the neighborhood will be the thing that gets them up for Rita. BR losing to MC and Rita, the Loyola game week 9 will be a mess.

I thought Rita outplayed Providence so while I think Loyola -14 here I would not call a Rita win an upset.

Providence had 150 more yards of offense then rita. They almost blew the game like they did in 16. I really don't know how you feel rita out played them

So who wins the 2017 CCL Blue?

Loyola 50%
MC 20%
Provi 15%
Rice 10%
Rita 5%

If Rita wins more then one game, Kuska should win the Lawless award.

Well it is a message board, so all posters reserve the right to have a change of heart as evidence presents itself. But SR has one blue win so far with LA at home and BR in a neighborhood rivalry on the road. BR will play SR with all they got and if SR isn't clicking...I wouldn't discount his preseason prediction just yet.

SR gave up a TD on a long pass on 4th down with one minute to play in the game. SR marched right down the length of the field with less than a minute to play and almost scored. SR fans thought they won it when there was less than two minutes left in the game. The PC o-line did a very good job of running the ball up and down the field between the 20's.

That being said I think PC may be the sleeper in the playoffs if they continue to play as they have. They are too good to continue under the radar.

It was actually 2nd and 8 from the 23 with a little over a minute left when pc scored not 4th down.
Good luck against Loyola this game should let everyone no who is pretenders and contenders in the blue. Until proven otherwise Loyola is top dog.

Ramblers run away with this one. 45-14.

That's the consensus by most people and in all probability is spot on, but you never know when dealing with high school kids, especially such as LA this year with so many youngsters starting. Also, a 7:30 Friday night game is not what they are accustomed to after a full day of school and spending over two hours on a coach in heavy traffic getting to S. Western Ave. while usually playing on Saturday afternoons. Also, St. Rita has a lot to play for tonight, competing for first place in the CCL, validation of having turned the corner this year and their homecoming. I have heard LA is taking this game very seriously. Should be fun to watch!

St. Rita is a good football team. Loyola is a very good football team. If you want to gauge the difference hold your thumb and forefinger about 2 inches apart. That’s the difference in size between every Loyola player and their St. Rita counterpart. St. Rita are like the mustang horse from Hidalgo and Loyola are like the Clydesdales from the commercials. Kuska and Holecek had a nice long conversation before the game during the coin flip and for three minutes after the St. Rita players went to the locker room.

As far as the game goes Loyola dominated the end of the 1st quarter and most of the 2nd taking a 21 point lead. St. Rita drove for a score just before halftime and again to start the 2nd half making it 21-14. Loyola answered making it 34-14. St. Rita drove deep in Loyola territory but were stopped with 9 minutes to go in the game. By mutual consent both coaches pulled their starters.

Loyola is going to be a power in the 8A playoffs. Seeing a rooster from Loyola with all of the kids who sat for the first game with Phillips lined out is testament to how good their bench is.

It was a great homecoming atmosphere last night. It was awesome to speak to some of the old timers back for the weekend enjoying the the festivities and catching up with their buds from 50 or 60 years ago. Aside from the game, much to be proud about down there on the south side.

Congrats to the Rambler on a very impressive victory. They are just too damn good! Hopefully, no major injuries for both teams, so they can be fresh for the playoff run here.

St. Rita’s sophomores came out on top of Loyola 26-13 and the freshmen won 41-35. Both teams are 5-1. While Loyola’s varsity is huge in physical stature St. Rita is on par with the Loyola sophomores there. While I don’t get crazy of the lower level records the big plus for me is with all three levels making the switch to this new offense. Never could understand the freshmen not playing same offense as the varsity in the past. With this mind set you’ll see kids ready to start at full speed on the varsity when they get there which has not always been the case in the past especially at QB.

LA has 3 sophs starting on the varsity O-line. I promise you that Rita is not on par with LA by the time these kids in wilmette go through LA's nutrition, strength and conditioning program. Frosh/Soph scores are little indication of how these kids will do at the varsity level.

Thank you for your promise. And I hope Coach Holocek stays for the next 30 years because it seems you have become very sure of things.

Evidently the poor south side kids at BR MC and SR kids are under nourished like a third world country and can’t afford the food that your elite program can afford? This may be the most arrogant comment of the season.

I guess the nutrition, strength and conditioning programs at MC, JCA, SR, PC, and BR that produced numerous state championships pale to you in regards to what? Money?

Understood. You're always a good LA supporter, poster. I've just been around the ccl since the 70s and saw Rita and Laurence own the 70s, MC, GT, SR be strong in the 80s, MC own the 90s, MC, SR and LA in the 2000s and, of course, your Ramblers are definitely the dominant force this decade.

I wasn't implying economics. LA's coach played in the NFL for nearly a decade. That experience must count for something...

Holecek is the best coach in the state. But that's not what you posted. If you are backtracking ok then. Everyone here for the most part gave you guys a pass on the week one suspensions. Thou at Phillips they would have gotten band credit.
