I say keep us and UNC as staples in it and rotate the other two every 3/4 years. OSU is blah. UCLA is blah.
OSU is blah but somehow has beaten our butts every yr since we knocked the Craft/Sullinger squad out of the tournament.
UK struggles against football programs on the hardwood but never returns the favor on the gridiron.

So Kentucky schedule is
Michigan state
ACC/SEC challenge team
Louisville
IU
Gonzaga
St. John’s (allegedly)
And I’m guessing the rest will be mid majors or bad teams in rupp
7 out of 13 games being good ones, hopefully the SEC wont be brutal as hell this year.

A Big Team team needed to go between Ohio State and UCLA for a big marquee event. And they chose to boot...UCLA? Do they realize this is a basketball event?
UCLA wanted out because Cronin's a pansy and doesnt like heading east so many times a year because he lost some games in his first big 10 season on the road 😭😭😭 lol
That said UCLA got to duck us last time too didnt they?

Agree, this may be me but I kinda get the feeling we won’t get Duke or UNC In the ACC/sec challenge.

Awesome. Will be looking forward to it. The last time Kentucky played St. John's turned out to be a pretty good season.

We need the UKIT (WITH ALL MAJOR TEAMS) to come back to KENTUCKY. One year in Rupp and one Year in Louisville. Switching each year. Pit UK and UofL vs teams like Michigan and Mich State, Iowa and Iowa State, Arizona and Arizona State and so forth, would be fun with Duke and UNC but cannot due to ACC teams. But play those games in a 2 day event, winners and losers play 2nd day.

i am not sure what 80's and 90's you remember but we normally played 2-3 ranked OOC games a year
Seems like we played the Villanova's, UNC's, Kansas', Notre Dame, Indiana's etc. every year. Maybe I'm remembering wrong? And of course Louisville every year (from the mid-80's on?)

In 1982 we only had 9 non-conference games, including Notre Dame, Illinois, Villanova, Kansas, and Indiana - I remember that because it was my senior year in college and I got my roommates hooked on UK basketball - watching most of those games together.

I just looked up the non-conference schedule in 1981. Included in our 8 games: Ohio State, Indiana, Kansas, Seton Hall, UNC, Notre Dame.

Not a lot of cupcakes in those days.

I think a lot of that is myth, but it's a popular myth, as you're not the only one. Cal played a similar amount of tough OOC opponents as we did under Sutton and Pitino in the mid 80's and early 90's. The difference is that the OOC schedule increased from 9 games in the mid 80's and 90's to around 13 games in the 2000's. So, you generally keep the same amount of tough games, but you fill in the others with weak opponents.
