Some thoughts after processing the film and coming down off of OMG NEW STAR WARS high.
That whole Finn/Oriental Gal storyline has to lead to something in the next film, right? One of those horse **** scooping kids is the next Jedi or something.
And Del Toro’s character has to be some kinda of Han Solo character at some point. We didn’t see him die, so he must still be kicking somewhere.
If that storyline ties VIII and IX together, then it won’t be a complete loss. As long as Rose doesn’t end up being an effing Jedi too ...
Now, my Snoke theory: Rian Johnson didn’t like the character, so he killed him. Seems reasonable.
When Rey went to the darkness pit, or whatever the hell that was, she only saw herself. When Luke went into the thing in Empire (?) he saw himself in Vader’s get up. Rey just saw herself. To me that could mean two things. 1. She really has no inclination to the dark side at all, or B. she is so balanced in the force that she is neither dark nor light, which could make IX very interesting.
CAUTION. OUTLANDISH THEORY AHEAD: I know I just said that I think Snoke is just gone because the director didn’t want the character, but ... my outlandish theory is that Snoke isn’t dead, and he’s Darth Maul. Reasoning: Darth Maul has already been cut in half once. When the lightsaber went through Snoke, it looked to me (I need to watch again) like it went straight through, Kylo pulled it through the front, and then his torso just flopped off. When it did come off, there seems to be some something almost like sparks coming out of both end of Snoke cut though parts. In case you haven’t heard, Empire/First Order docs are good about reattaching things with technology. Just a dumb thought, but you never know.
