Start KJ, let Reid be the 6th man

KJ isn’t a true point but he did some good stuff last year in that role and Reid is clearly getting overmatched already + he’s not a real PG anyways. He doesn’t make others around him better.

Let Reid play the Tre Demps esque sixth man role where he can be more of a focal point in the offense and also play against lesser backups.

Me too. I don't think Reid is going to be value added in conference play. He isn't enough of a threat to score on drives to draw defenders to him so as to open someone else - either in the paint or the perimeter. If you can't get to the rim, like Boo was so good at, you have to at least have the 8-foot pull up jumper and haven't seen that either. Plus he isn't gong to defend.

I’m primarily concerned about the defense. At his size he has to be tenacious and crafty, and we haven’t seen that

What does this accomplish? I don’t get how Reid is not a true point guard? He’s fifth in the conference in assists. Yes, he gets wild and yes he struggles to defend, but I see KJ perfect for Tre Demps role. Both need to score double digits a game. Both were getting abused on D last game. KJ is a shooting guard. Shoot. In 8 games KJ has scored over 3 points twice. Something is amiss. He is tentative and we all want the aggressive KJ we saw last year. I thinking he is still finding his place. I am sure it is much more frustrating for KJ than us as fans, it’s up to the staff to figure out how to unlock him. If starting him gives us two scorers instead of one, let’s do it, but it seems a little early for that.

Reid is the best option at the lead guard spot right now and it’s not close. This group is still learning how to play together at the high-major level with eight newcomers all stepping into new roles, so the ups and downs are part of it this season. The biggest concern so far is on the glass. The effort and physicality in the rebounding has to be better. Reid also gives this offense a different gear with his shooting, the gravity he creates, and his passing feel. He’s a young player, and as the game slows down for him, he’ll figure it out.

I did not realize but in watching the game they said multiple times Clayton is a captain. It would seem that he brings a lot more to the program than many here give him credit for
A guy who is a captain because of positive leadership in practice doesn’t actually have to play if his production doesn’t warrant it.

Agree Reid is best option we have. Good assists and decent shooter.

But it’s his D that’s the difference from previous years (Boo and Leach and Mac). Watch closely. Opposing point guards drive past him too often for layups or pass to big man by basket. was hoping he’d have more steals but haven’t seen those. That’s been a killer.

Mullins is a spark and we need his grit. I have seen the incoming class many times in Wilmette at Starbucks and their size is very unimpressive. Lacking strength and physical maturity. Maybe in a year or two.

Well in the last couple games Clayton has been a plus in the games and has earned his minutes. Couple earlier games he did not play because of an injury He brings D which is sorely lacking at guard right now

The good news is definitely that he’s playing better, the bad news is “better” isn’t “all that good” but his minutes are still definitely deserved due to overall struggles by everyone

Clayton would be more likely to start than KJ at point and longer term West
