GW wins in Rockford, but at a price after several injuries. Hats off to the GW coaching staff for making exactly the right adjustments on defense at half, shutting down Auburn 's speedy offense in the second half. Sam Brodner is a monster, but GW passing attack just killed Auburn.

what killed Auburn is a guy named Nico Gagliano. My count had him at six sacks. That is unheard of and it could have been 8-9 but QB got the ball off as he was going down. Gags had him throwing early and pulling it down just about every play..

Don't get me wrong, the dline and outside LBs took away the run early and forced Auburn to throw just about every play, but it is really obvious that Hetlett and the inside LBs came up with a dynamite game plan for the second half. Andreasak, Goleash and Matson cut off the inside slants and blew up every run Auburn tried. But Gagliano was a one man wrecking crew.

Auburn may be pretty scary for years to come. Those kids could ball. They are going to be scary good after that coach gets the program fully bought in. By the looks of the family atmosphere on the field after the game, he is already there.

Nice post. Totally agree with you on Auburn being really good for years to come. But they saw what the top level in IHSA football looks like in GBW, today. They have a ways to go to reach that level.

Great season for Auburn, but tough loss today-though not a surprising loss. GBW is obviously a really good team, and Gagliano was ridiculous today. In the limited film I saw, it was Gagliano that worried me more than Brodner, but both of those kids had tremendous individual efforts today. I also think Auburn earned some respect from the GBW players today-it could be seen in the post-match handshake line. It was definitely a battle, as evidenced by the injuries to the GBW players. I sincerely hope the kid that was taken into the ambulance is doing ok. All around great high school football atmosphere between two programs with high character staff and players. Good luck the rest of the way to GBW.

I agree with the comments about Auburn. I think their coach is one of the best in illinois, and that program is in good hands. Kids played hard and some of their skill kids are very good. Great fan base, too.

Agreed. Auburn is in good hands.

I am hearing that the kid that left in the ambulance will be OK. Nothing broken.

Auburn is where GW was 7-8 years ago. You have finally found your coach and the kids are believing and seeing the fruits. One of our mothers posted on Facebook tonight that she has never been around a nicer group of parents than Auburn. Everyone was super nice and you should be proud of the impression you left on the GW families.

Who knows...maybe we will do this again soon. Cheers!
