Start Woods?

Anyone who’s been around on here knows I’ve been a solid Sellers supporter from Day 1. I chalked last year’s regression fully up to Shula and really thought Briles would unlock his potential and get him back to where he was a couple years ago. But after last year and the last two games, I’m willing to admit he just doesn’t have it between ears. He flashes just enough athleticism to whet the appetite but those plays are more than offset by his head scratching plays.

As excited as I have been about him all along and a big supporter, it’s starting to feel like we’re trying to get blood from a turnip. It pains me to say it, but I just don’t think he has ir between the ears.

I have not been all about Woods thus far, but there are some on here who swear he’s an excellent passer. We seem to have established a running game, so what we really need is a quarterback who can distribute the ball effectively.

Honestly, that may be what could turn the season around. OL is better, defense can improve - we've seen that with white. RBs aren't that bad either.

I've got doubts about Woods because I feel like Briles would have thrown him in there if he thought he were better than Sellers...

What really disturbs me about no. 16 is that there were a good 3-4 passes I could see well enough to discern that were not only poor throws, they were throws that should not have been made to start with. The guy just does not know what he’s doing.

Beamer has demonstrated he is willing to put loyalty above winning with his coaching hires and will probably stick to that MOA with the QB situation. Got a lot invested in Sellers!

There were also 2 or 3 other passes from Sellers that could have been easy picks as well last night.

So you're saying that you think Sellers needs to improve?

Seriously, I dont know if it's loyalty from the staff, or feeling locked in due to the NIL money, but how long can you go without at least a decent look at the #2 guy?

Under normal circumstances, not seeing the backup would make me question if hes unprepared or not as good as we hope. But the aforementioned loyalty and NIL could also explain that.

Here's another crappy thought. We dont have ANY patsies upcoming in order to get a good look at Woods. He's going into a dogfight almost any week we try to use him.

I’d make sure Woods gets plenty reps with the 1s during this weeks practice. If Sellers falters during the first half vs Bama, Woods gets half 2; Or put in in q2 if Sellers is real bad.

I know it is "our" 2026 season....AND we only get one of them. I get the immediate need to re-correct. But....Sellers with another OC. That's a lot of languages to start over learning every year guys.
I think he will continue to get better. I wish we had some power reads in there and I thought we went away from RPOs. I don't know if that is due to scheme or the OC not comfortable with QB/Recs doing too much of it yet. I will tell you this...if you like Indiana, Ole Miss offenses....that style can be us before you know it. But- you have to rep it in games, try it and trust it.

I do like Woods. But, you have a cadillac.......he's a 16 year old driver right now and by year end he will be a 30 year old driver. Woods may have to come in at any moment so he'd better be ready....but Sellers gives us lots of chances and I think he will continue to trust and improve.

What I wonder is whether Beamer's hands are tied by the people who gave the NIL for LS to become a millionaire. I hope that is not how it works, but it might be.

@18IsTheMan, this is the best summary of Sellers, very well stated. although I have been skeptical of Sellers. I think he is playing the wrong position for his size and physical abilities; he lacks the football IQ needed to be a really good qb.

that first pick he threw was as bad if not worse than the later ones he threw in the third qtr, we were in the red zone and attempted to throw it through 2 msu defenders positioned perfectly in front of him, he was just saved by the defensive penalty. furthermore, he has gotten into the bad habit of carrying the ball like a loaf of bread when scrambling around, not tucking securely.

i think Woods is up to the task, I have seen enough to see his football iq is better then Sellers.

One thing I’ll say for Sellers, he got blindsided on a blitz, ripped his helmet off (stupid rule btw), got swarmed, and did NOT go down. Strong man; helmet sticker. Fuller laid a lick on the sideline too, he and Coleman both are hard runners

I agree with most of that, but something about the way he has started throwing the ball really worries me and he made some absolutely terrible decisions last night. Decisions that a 4th year QB shouldn't make, regardless of the offense.
